Our front-of-house supervisor Matthew recently got the chance to head straight to the source of so many of our delicious wines, spending a day traversing the vineyards of Rioja to see what makes this region so special in Spain. Over a day in the hills and valleys of Rioja Alta and Alavesa, he explored 600-year-old caves still being used to age wines, while learning about the many different processes that go into creating the wine that ends up on your table. Sherry week is back starting November 4! Sherry wine, the pride of Southern Spain's Andalusia region. Although mostly overlooked by the common red wines such as Tempranillo or Rioja, Sherry is one of the oldest continually-produced wines in the world, dating back to as early as 1231. We carry a variety of sherry on our shelves that is certified from the Jerez y Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a uniquely protected point of origin on the Andalucia west coast that forms only three towns who produce the most authentic, and only true-to-name Sherry. Did you know that Spain is home to over 260 varieties of olives? It's safe to say, the Spanish have a love affair with olives and aren't just an ingredient; they're a symbol of community and sharing. The olive harvest season in Spain typically kicks off in October. During this time, farmers meticulously hand-pick the olives to ensure quality, with some regions even celebrating annual olive festivals!

we love incorporating them into our dishes, we've narrowed that choice down to 3. marinated in Pimentón or fresh orange juice, combined with piparra peppers. Come taste the difference and experience the spirit of Spain!

Cultivated in Spain for centuries, and classically paired with Manchego cheese, the fruit, similar to an apple or pear is cooked down with sugar until it forms a thick, jelly-like consistency, perfect for spreading or pairing, and makes for a wonderful dessert!
