Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival continues despite rain Saturday's rainy weather didn't deter thousands from flocking to San Francisco's Japantown to enjoy the annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival.

Meet Taiko Fujimura Visual Arts, this year’s Festival poster designer.🌸 Bringing her love for nature and calligraphy, Taiko presents “unity” and “celebration” with her design.💕 She wants her art to be a tool to share a feeling of togetherness in the community through the Festival.🎊 We did an exclusive interview with Taiko, as she shares insights into her creative process and the motivation behind her art.🎨🖌️Check out the full blog on our website! 祭 - Matsuri means “Festival”🎊

Designed by San Francisco-based Mixed Media Artist Taiko Fujimura Visual Arts. Taiko has been practicing Japanese Calligraphy since the age of 6. Her art pieces seeks to bridge the contradictions around us where two opposites co-exist through unifying space. She has exhibited her art both locally in the de Young Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Consulate General of Japan in San Franciso and abroad at the Hirafuku Museum of Art and the Denshokan Museum in Akita, Japan. This year’s poster marries Taiko’s love for calligraphy and art, with the Japanese kanji for Matsuri 祭 surrounded by Cherry Blossoms hand drawn by Taiko.

Suppose you’ve found a sense of familiarity with Taiko’s poster. In that case, you may have seen her mural at the Salesforce Transit Center and the various mini-hearts she painted in 2018, 2019, and 2022 as part of San Francisco’s city-wide iconic Hearts Project.💗

Our 2023 Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival Grand Marshal was a very special guest this year - ✨ A record-breaking number of people filled the Japantown Peace Plaza to see her incredible performance and many were moved to tears. Kina, thank you for the beautiful memories that we will never forget! 🌸🌸

👉 For those who would like to see her perform again or those who missed her show at our Festival, rejoice! Kina will be back in San Francisco on September 7th at the Great American Music Hall.
