School of Art Education

The School of Art Education’s philosophy is that every educator should be both skilled and passionate about what they teach.

Our students develop a broad range of their own visual art skills as well as a deep understanding of pedagogy – the art and science of teaching. Our graduates bring to their classrooms artistry that inspires and teaching abilities that succeed.

Today, we highlight one of our alums, Marina Wang, class of 2010-2012.
Marina has taught art to kids and adults for the past seven years in different art educational settings. Currently, she spends most of her time pursuing her dream as an artist while teaching and creating art online for adults.

We asked Marina a couple of questions about her time at in our program and what she loves about teaching.

Q: What was your experience like in the Art Education department?

A: "It was a perfect program for someone has passion in teaching art. The curricula were well designed and teachers were experienced. After I graduated, I felt pretty comfortable teaching art to different age groups in different art educational settings, like schools, art museums, and community centers."

Q: What do you love about teaching?

A: "I believe art serves everyone regardless of age, nationality, or gender. I feel happy when hearing from students said how much they enjoyed art. I remember a 4th grader wrote a letter to me said she wanted to become an architect in the future because of my classes. Teaching goes both ways, I also got inspired by my students and learned a lot from them."

In another post we will showcase some student's work as a result of Marina's teachings.

Congratulations on all you've done!! We're proud of you!
