⭐️ Congratulations 5th Graders! ⭐️
Yesterday we celebrated our amazing 5th graders who are soaring off to middle school! 🎓 We’re so proud of everything you’ve accomplished at Sunset Elementary and can’t wait to see the incredible things you’ll achieve in this next chapter. Once a Sunset Star, always a Sunset Star! ✨
Our 5th graders knocked it out of the park with their traffic study presentation to the community and city officials, including Supervisor and Director ! Their hard work, methodology, and recommendations for change were quite impressive. Way to go, Sunset Stars!
💕 Pink Wave + Visit from Out and About Books! 💕
Today we wear pink to stand against bullying and also welcomed Kate and the mobile book van where Sunset families added more LGBTQ+ stories to our school library, Rainbow Club and classroom book collections!
⭐️ Happy Earth Day 🌎 ⭐️
We commemorated Earth Month with an engaging Environmental Fair, which focused on sustainability initiatives and raising awareness about important environmental issues, alongside an educational field trip to Recology for our enthusiastic third graders, who learned all about waste management, how to think critically about consumption habits, and ways to make a positive impact
Congratulations to Principal Tong for receiving the Advocates Worthy of Excellence Award from the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education this week! 🎊🎈🎉 Your efforts and advocacy make a difference for exceptional students receiving special education services! Hooray to you, our teachers and the related services team supporting our Sunset students to thrive!

An annual family favorite where the entire community can come together to explore, create, discover, and learn! This year was our biggest event yet, featuring many new booths and a special appearance by the robotics team.

Happy Spirit Friday from our Sunset teachers - today’s theme is “Express Yourself” where students are encouraged to showcase the things they love most!
Congratulations to our amazing team at Sunset who took part in yesterday’s Climate Solutions , along with our neighbors at APG, where we got to showcase our school sustainability practices as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s celebration of the district’s recent Green Ribbon Award. Many thanks to our mighty team of teacher, parent, and student volunteers who helped in preparing the school and welcoming our visitors so warmly and with so much helpful information on our innovative practices and our ongoing efforts to combat climate change!
Hip hip hooray to our wonderful fifth graders who treated staff today with delicious salads made from harvested kale, lettuce, celery, apples, pears, and shallots from our very own Sunset garden! They cleaned, cut, and combined their harvest with locally sourced spinach, pecans, dried cherries and croutons to create a truly memorable meal. Thank you so much to our 5th graders!
Our Annual Giving Campaign kicked off last week and will go through Sept 29th!
Once a year, our PTA does a direct ask to raise funds for our exceptional school. Why? Because we want to give all our Sunset Stars the resources and support needed for a world class education in our urban city.
Your generosity enables Sunset to continue funding: Enrichment programs, like the Recess program for all grades and Nagata dance for K & 1st grade; School support, like ParentSquare, Shopify website, permit fees for events, and printing for nearly every letter or flier in your Wednesday folder; Curriculum support including teacher grants for classroom materials, field trips like the 4th Grade Overnight Naturebridge trip, learning apps like Typing Club and Brain Pop, and assemblies; Community events like STEAM night, Lunar New Year performance, and 5th grade promotion.
Let's come together as a community and support all of these programs and resources that help make Sunset an outstanding school!
Know that your gift will make a difference and has the power to influence the educational experience of all 400+ students. Whatever the contribution, we are grateful for you.

ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR
We had our environmental fair yesterday!! What an amazing event put together by our community.
After a pandemic-induced hiatus, second grade was able to reignite their traditional Rob Hill camping trip, last Tuesday. Despite the rain, they were all smiles as they hiked, explored the beach, played games, cooked out, and roasted s’mores over a campfire.
Today we celebrated Miss Anna our school secretary and doer of amazing things!! Thank you for the care you give to our kids and your commitment to our community. We see all that you do, day in and day out, to keep things running smoothly!
We appreciate you!
In honor of national social work month, we celebrated our amazing, Mr. Mannion, right before Spring break. The Sunset community is incredibly fortunate to have his support, care, and kindness. We hope you can feel how much you are appreciated, Mr. Mannion!
