Fight the urge to procrastinate on putting together your go-bag❕
What better time than to walk around the house and build a bag you can quickly grab if you need to leave home in an emergency. Include items like nonperishable foods, water, copies of important documents, cash and anything else you think your family and pets would need.
During a disaster important documents could get lost or destroyed. Prepare now by storing them in a waterproof container in a safe area of your home and creating digital copies.
As the heat cont. in the Bay Area, if you're coming to SF beaches to cool off, riptides & sneaker waves can make SF beaches dangerous places to swim. It's best to stay out of the water.
Did you know in case of a disaster, you should be prepared to shelter at work for at least 24 hours? Your work kit should include food, water, and other necessities like medicines and comfortable walking shoes and clothes. In the spirit of SFDEM Exec. Director Mary Ellen Carroll walked the talk and checked her office emergency supplies to make sure her clothes were not only practical but still in style (yes, skinny jeans are still in style!) www.sf72.org/supplies
It's another warm day in SF. Keep hydrated & seek cooler environments if you:
- Feel tired, weak, or dizzy
- Have a headache or muscle cramps
- Are sweating heavily
- Feel faint
- Look pale
Stay safe in the heat: Don’t leave kids, pets or older adults in locked cars with the windows closed. Outside temperatures of 80 degrees can rise to 99 degrees inside a locked car in just 10 minutes & 123 degrees after an hour.
Our windows can be powerful natural air conditioners, but as temperatures rise and we open windows more than usual, this increases the risk of falls for young children. If possible, install safety gates on open windows, and always keep an eye on young children. More information at www.sf72.org/hazard/heat-0
Parked cars get hot, fast – and so do your children. Always check the back seat before leaving your car.

Los autos estacionados se calientan, y tus hijos también. Siempre revisa el asiento trasero antes de salir del auto.

SF is in a heat advisory. Keep an eye on young children & have a safety gate in place if you have your windows open to cool off. Heat deaths and accidents are preventable.

A medida que las temperaturas aumentan por toda el Área de la Bahía, esté al pendiente de los niños pequeños e instale una reja de seguridad si abre las ventanas para mantener su hogar fresco. Las muertes y accidentes causados por el calor pueden prevenirse.

🚨 Worried about someone’s safety on the street? Call 911 for emergencies 🚨
A highly trained dispatcher will send the most appropriate response team for each situation. Calling 911 does not necessarily mean that the police will respond. San Francisco is a leader in developing alternatives to law enforcement for people experiencing behavioral health crises.
Expect these questions:
▪️ Where is the emergency?
▪️ What is happening?
▪️ Who is involved?
▪️ Is anyone injured?
▪️ Is there a weapon?

Preparedness isn't a one-size-fits-all. Start small: add an extra case of water bottles to your shopping list, or a flashlight to your night stand. Gradually build your emergency kit. Details at SF72.org/supplies

Happy 1st week of school ! While we are stocking up on school supplies & filling out this year's student emergency contact forms, it's a great time to talk about your family's emergency plan, including where to meet & who will be your out of area comms triage lead.
SF AT&T copper wire landlines are temporarily disrupted. The SF 911 center is not impacted. If you are an AT&T landline customer experiencing a fire or medical emergency or need SFPD help, use a cell or voice-over-internet phone to call 911. Do not call 911 to test connectivity.
