Climate pollution is falling in California, but it’s still too high. We need to do more, not less, to fix it. To hit these 2030 targets we must speed up the energy transition and make good on our promise to lead the globe into a safer, healthier era powered by clean energy. Our children will thank us.

The 15th Edition of Next 10’s California Green Innovation Index found that statewide GHG emissions increased by 3.4% in California from 2020 to 2021, after a significant drop of 8.8% in 2020. Given the current emissions reduction rate, California will meet its 2030 climate goal in 2051.

To get back on track, we’ll need to triple the rate of emissions cuts we’ve made since 2010—going from the actual average annual reduction of about 1.5% a year to about 4.6% a year.
