Pardon the dust 🥲
Quite an unusual day for us after over 30 years in business. Thanks everyone who came by this morning to checked if we were okay.
Hard to swallow when another long time establishment is shutting its door for good.
Our parents bought this restaurant (Vanida Thai Kitchen) from Ananda Fuara, who’s moving into downtown area back in 1991. I remembered walking into Ananda Fuara after their day has ended, and they were all doing some kind of chanting. Everybody was very nice and kind to us. The light blue wall got carried over to Vanida Thai Kitchen as well as many other decors. We also decided to carry on their tradition by adding many vegetarian selections onto our menu.
Even though it’s been a long time since their relocation, their name has been well-established among patrons in this city. We would always got questions like where have they moved to, what happened to them? But not until many years passed that we learned about their Civic Center location.
It’s never easy to say goodbye. However, our family at Vanida Thai would like to thank Ananda Fuara for handing over to us, this Taraval location. Until next time.

Beautiful sky today! 😍 Gotta love the Sunset ☀️
It’s the happy season… lets all be kind and forgiving 🥰
Curtis Harding well said sir
The weekend is here and the holiday season is drawing closer. With that in mind, be kind to people working in hospitality, even when they get it wrong.
They work weird hours.
They often eat on the run or not at all.
They miss out on parties and get-togethers.
They showed up.
They're doing their best.
So, if the service is slow, the cashier isn't sure of a price, they put the wrong syrup in your coffee, forget to swap your salad for chips, or - God forbid - your drink came with ice and you ordered it without, remember how hard they're trying and that they likely have some serious stuff going on in their own lives.
It costs nothing to be nice.
This concludes my Ted Talk.
We got a visitor at our booth today 😅😍

It was another busy day at the market Outer Sunset Farmers Market & Mercantile. Do you know that it all started because of COVID?
We, just like many folks in the industry, were freaking out when the first lock down happened. We were staring blank at the future of our restaurant, our staff, and our customers. We were planning for a big celebration for our 30-year anniversary, then the pandemic just knocked the wind out of us. Fortunately, we rode out the first lock down with ease, thanks to the Outer Sunset community's support.
In October, we decided to join the farmers market in hope of introducing ourselves to the community. We started out with only three items on our menu, and very small amount were prepared for that first week. We were hoping that nothing would be left for us to take home. Fortunately, we were sold out before the closing bell.
As we kept growing more and more at the market, I have been spending a lot of time putting myself in social media, trying to promote our restaurant. It has been a slow progress because I do believe in the real, organic power of word-of-mouth instead of paying for someone to come rave out us. If we are the real deal, people will drive across town to find us. I have been putting myself out more and more, pushing hard to get to that spotlight.
All these months I have been putting my name and the restaurant out there, I failed to do one thing.... thanking my team.
Our work doesn't go from only 9-3pm on Sunday. There are those who arrive at the restaurant before the sun does, those who close the restaurant door late into the night, those who prepare stuff for the market while filling all the orders on busy Friday and Saturday, those who load stuff in the van, set up the tent, etc. So, big thank to our team for making this happen. Another big thank goes to my wife who has been working as hard as those of us in the frontline, my kids who come out to be the emotional support every week and tirelessly walk around the market to trade my Pad Thai for their lunches. And if you frequent the market, you will also notice another couples who help me wash my pans, and help me plate the orders. They are my papa and mama, the one who started all this 30 years ago. Although retired, they come out here almost every week to lend me physical and emotional support.
Lastly, we want to shout out to all our friends and customers out there who have come to see us, both at the market and restaurant. We were fortunate to have our restaurant (and food stall) as a little meeting spot, where we get to say hello to all of you in person! We are grateful of your presence during this whole pandemic thing. So, yes, you all deserve a very big thank you from us also.
Our 30-year anniversary is coming up in August, and we hope that this year, we can finally have the celebration we have been waiting for! Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
