Sometimes as a Burn Foundation, our reach is far and wide.

The family of a 3 year old Burn Survivor in Escondido, CA reached out to the Firefighters Burn Foundation in San Jose, asking for help. While it’s not our norm to help somebody 443 miles away, we felt it was our obligation to help this courageous Burn Survivor. She suffered a scald burn 3 weeks ago and is currently recovering from her injuries. At our core, our #1 mission as a certified 501c non-profit is to support burn survivors, and sometimes for us, it doesn’t matter where they live.

"Escondido, can you feel the love?!!!"

Last week, the Firefighters Burn Foundation covered $3,511.50 in burn garments for a patient that could not afford them. As a Foundation, we decided that her recovery was more important than her pain. Burn garments are worn 20+ hours a day during the recovery process and help with scaring, redness, itching and are made custom-order for each burn survivor.

Please help us this Saturday, November 26, 2022 as we host our annual Fill the Boot Fundraiser in San Jose. What makes the Firefighters Burn Foundation so unique is that we are all volunteer, with no paid staff. We believe this is important because your funds donated on Saturday go directly to Burn Survivors in need like the one we sponsored last week.

For the first time in Burn Foundation history, we presented funds to a Burn Survivor from 2 different agencies. San Jose Firefighters and members of the Menlo Park Fire District presented a $2,500 check to a recent Burn Survivor who was burned in East Palo Alto. When the Survivor turned to the Menlo Park Firefighters and asked "You were there?" it was truly a special moment when they responded "Yes, we were."

Thank you Menlo Park!
Thank you VMC!

Today was a real honor taking a young burn survivor shopping! He came to this country from Guatemala with nothing. After sustaining a significant burn injury, he was cared for at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Today, he was treated with a $1,500 shopping spree at Target by YOUR Firefighters Burn Foundation.

We raise money to spend money.
We are all volunteer.
We are non-profit.

In 2021 YTD, the Firefighters Burn Foundation has donated $23,776.64 to 19 different burn patients at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. We have paid rent, paid for funeral costs, purchased bicycles and toys. We also have given money to those that lost everything. We are grassroots and when the Burn Nurses at Valley say “we need help,” the Burn Foundation is waiting in the wings. It does not get much more grassroots than that. So, you can “wish upon a star” or you could just be a star. Change the life of a Survivor. Give hope. Give life. Give today.

In 2020, the Firefighters Burn Foundation donated $16,055 directly to Burn Survivors at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. YTD 2021, we have donated $14,985. Patients come into the Burn Unit and leave Survivors and sometimes, these "Survivors" need a little extra help in terms of financial stability. When you've lost everything, a little goes a long way so that is what we do.

A dollar in is a dollar out. We have no paid staff. We are all volunteer. We are a certified 501c non-profit and have been for the past 31 years.

Donate today. It's easy. It's rewarding. It makes a difference.

"I have not seen sunshine in 7 weeks."

That's the first thing Survivor Andy said when he stepped outside of the Burn Unit at Valley Medical Center earlier today. He is the DEFINITION of a Survivor: Humble, Grateful, Determined and Happy to be alive. Andy shared his gratitude for the staff at the Burn Unit. He was also very thankful for the San Jose Firefighters Burn Foundation that presented him with a $1,000 sponsorship as he starts the process to rebuild his life.

If you think your donations to this 501c certified non-profit don't make a difference, think again. We are all-volunteer and have been for the past 31 years so Survivors like Andy can live to see another day.

In the early morning hours of February 25, 2021, a house fire in East Palo Alto displaced a family of 7, two of them were critically burned. Several days ago, YOUR San Jose Firefighters Burn Foundation presented the family a check for $2,000 to help them recover from the total loss.

The family is also very grateful for the Menlo Park Fire Protection District and the staff at Burn Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

The San Jose Firefighters Burn Foundation would like to recognize Rhonda Wothke Galey for the single largest donation in our 31 year history! Since 1990, we have been able to do what we do because of people like Rhonda. We are so grateful that our 501c certified non-profit moved her enough to take action. Simply put, the Burn Foundation raises money to support Burn Survivors at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. With only 3 Trauma ICU Burn Centers in Northern California, VMC's reach is wide and far.

Thank you to the San Jose Sharks Foundation for hosting the Burn Foundation Sharks T-Shirt Fundraiser. Together with our community, $12,500 was raised specifically for Burn Garments at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. These compression bandages are used after surgery to protect fragile skin, control abnormal scar tissue, promote circulation, and decrease itching. A child who suffers a significant burn injury will often times need over a dozen surgeries in their lifetime to accommodate their growing bodies.

Thank you to the Sharks and all who purchased a T-shirt and supported this worthy cause!

Alan Breslau passed on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020. Alan was not only the Founder of the Phoenix Society, but he was the heart and soul of the Burn Community. Many of your San Jose Firefighters have felt his love, energy and spirit at "World Burn," the Phoenix Society's signature event. It is only when you hear Alan's words of encouragement, you feel his soul. He was an incredible speaker, an accomplished pianist, but more importantly, a shining example of what Survivorship means.

Alan, we are so THANKFUL for you.

On October 26th 2020, two Orange County Fire Authority Firefighters suffered life threatening burn injuries at the Silverado Incident. Almost a month later, these two courageous burn survivors are still fighting the battle of their lives. Please don't forget, because we never will. The San Jose Firefighters Burn Foundation recently donated $2,000 towards their recovery efforts. Our Foundation is small, but our reach is mighty.

Celebrating all types, colors, preferences, stories, inclinations, races, creeds, shapes, sizes and beliefs. Burns do not discriminate. No hate. One love. One world. One race. The human race. Shine a little love on one another. Look through a wider lens. Look through their lens. Believe in the power of us, not in the power of you or me. Trust thy neighbor. Love thy neighbor. Hold thy neighbor. Break free from the shackles of hate. Be strong. Be resilient. If any time in our history we need love, now is the time. Be the change. Be the catalyst. Be the spark of forgiveness. Feel the love. Rise up. Stand up. Pride. 2020.
