Even amid the hottest July ever on record, there's good news for California's clean energy goals and grid resiliency. The grid recently hit the milestone of 100 days this year with 100% carbon-free, renewable electricity for at least a part of each day, according to data from Stanford University.

Congratulations to SVLG member San Jose State University! Tim McRae, SVLG's SVP of Sustainable Growth, was on hand yesterday to celebrate the new University's new student housing at Spartan Village on the Paseo -- in the heart of downtown San Jose.

The newest addition to SJSU's student housing stock will offer up to 700 student beds, including 124 affordable beds, and brand new amenities in a landmark downtown tower.

California Assembly Appropriations Committee Advances Landmark Data Center Expansion Bill SB 1298 (Cortese) 08/16/2024

Great news for our region's innovation ecosystem! The Assembly Appropriations Committee today passed SB 1298, a bill authored by Senator Dave Cortese to expand data center capacity and bolster critical infrastructure, all while upholding California's rigorous environmental standards.

SB 1298 (Cortese) is sponsored by SVLG and supported by the Data Center Coalition (DCC). The legislation now heads to the Assembly Floor for a vote.

“We applaud Senator Cortese for his continued leadership in advancing crucial legislation to meet our region’s pent-up demand for data centers,” said SVLG CEO Ahmad Thomas. “SB 1298 would ensure Silicon Valley and the Bay Area remain the global epicenter of innovation, unleashing a fresh wave of high-ROI investments and generating thousands of jobs for communities across the Golden State.”

Congratulations to SVLG member Waymo for their recent expansion to the Peninsula. The rapidly growing rider-only services are significantly safer than those driven by humans. SVLG commends Waymo on their continued efforts to safer roads and enhance the innovation economy.

The City of Fremont will transition its default electricity service to 100% renewable energy, following a unanimous City Council vote and subsequent approval by Ava Community Energy's Board of Directors.
