Would you take your baby to a chiropractor? These parents swear by it 02/16/2020

Yes!! At least weekly during moments of spinal stress (think milestones: like learning to crawl, stand, walk. New activities and sports. Injuries or falls. Etc, etc!)

Would you take your baby to a chiropractor? These parents swear by it Some parents believe taking their babies to the chiropractor helps fix everything from colic to ear infections.

February is Black History Month and we would like to add a bit of history to the month that might not be something the general public would know about. The first chiropractic adjustment was performed by D.D. Palmer on a man named Harvey Lillard. Harvey Lillard was a black man and stands in modern Chiropractic history as the first chiropractic patient dating back to September 18, 1895.

D.D. Palmer learned through communication with Mr. Lillard that he had gone deaf 17 years prior after working in a cramped, stooped position where he felt something “give way” in his spine - not through congenital defect or illness. Palmer reasoned that perhaps something had gone out of alignment in his spine and after examination, “adjusted” Lillard’s spine by simply feeling for misalignment and “racking” the bone into its proper place. Some historians say that the effect was immediate and some say that within three days, Lillard was able to hear again.

Palmer thought he had found a cure for deafness at the time, but soon started applying his newfound technique to the multitude of conditions that found their way into his office including epilepsy, heart conditions, digestive issues, migraines and so on. Later, after study and consideration, Palmer came up with the term “vertebral subluxation” which describes a slight misalignment of the spinal joints thus affecting the ability of one’s “innate intelligence” to heal/restore the body to health.

While D.D. Palmer was not the first to discover the connection between the spine and one’s health, the first adjustment on Harvey Lillard was the beginning of modern day Chiropractic.

Being a chiropractic office, we are honored to have the opportunity to share this history with you so that you can better understand one of the many reasons why chiropractic is so amazing! We not only honor Harvey Lillard this month, but every single day we are able to open the doors of our office knowing that we are helping families heal.

Did you know....?

As unpopular as this post will be.. I'm doing it for the people I love.
~~
A study conducted by the EWG (Environmental Working Group) at the Duke University recently found toxic chemicals in nail polish, some of which actually seeps into the women’s bodies. These endocrine disrupting chemicals consist of a trio of harmful elements including TPHP and DPHP (tri and di Phenyl phosphates respectively) which, 14 hours later also metabolize in the users’ bloodstream.

As if this is not alarming enough, another study has discovered that even everyday products like perfumes, lotions, body sprays and liquid soaps all contain similar endocrine disrupting products. This study was conducted by the University of Missouri and SUNY Albany. It concluded that majority of the products women use can actually affect their onset of menopause; even shave 2-4 years off it.

So, what are endocrine disorders?

Endocrine disorders are diseases related to the endocrine glands of the body. The endocrine system produces hormones, which are chemical signals sent out, or secreted, through the bloodstream. Hormones help the body regulate processes, such as appetite, breathing, growth, fluid balance, feminization and virilization, and weight control.

The endocrine system consists of several glands, including the pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the brain, adrenal glands in the kidneys, and thyroid in the neck, as well as the pancreas, ovaries and te**es. The stomach, liver and intestines also secrete hormones related to digestion. Most common endocrine disorders are related to improper functioning of the pancreas and the pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands.

What are endocrine disorders?

Common endocrine disorders include:

-Diabetes mellitus
-Acromegaly - overproduction of growth hormone
-Addison’s disease - decreased production of hormones by the adrenal glands
-Cushing’s syndrome - high cortisol levels for extended periods of time
-Graves’ disease - type of hyperthyroidism resulting in excessive thyroid hormone production
-Hashimoto’s thyroiditis - autoimmune disease resulting in hypothyroidism and low production of thyroid hormone
-Hyperthyroidism - overactive thyroid = weight loss or inability to gain weight
-Hypothyroidism - underactive thyroid = weight gain or inability to lose weight
-Prolactinoma - overproduction of prolactin by the pituitary gland or overproduction of milk

These disorders often have widespread symptoms, affect multiple parts of the body, and can range in severity from mild to very severe. Treatments depend on the specific disorder but often focus on adjusting hormone balance using synthetic hormones.

These effects don't just happen overnight. It takes time and constant exposure. But, if you're subjecting your body (and your family) to these toxins, it's just a matter of time.

Ask yourself this..
Is my constant use of these chemicals: make-up, hair care products, perfume, lotion, soap or nail polish worth the health risks? Is it worth risking my family's health?

If it is, well then, bless your little heart.

Medical humor at its finest....Reposting because it is too funny and too accurate to not share. Enjoy your weekend y’all! 😂😂

“My Colonoscopy” ~ By Dave Barry

I called my friend, Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis.

Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manor. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really hear anything he said because my brain was shrieking, HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!

I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription for a product called "MoviPrep" which comes in box large enough to hold a microwave oven.

I will discuss Movi Prep in detail later, for now, suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall in the hands of America's enemies.

I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous. I began my preparation.

In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water only with less flavor.

Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder together in a one liter plastic jug, then you fill it with luke warm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system a liter is about 32 gallons.)

Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.

The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose watery bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof you may experience contact with the ground.

MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be graphic, here, but have you ever seen the space shuttle launch?

This is pretty much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle.

There are times when you wish the commode had a seatbelt.

You spent several hours pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything. And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not even eaten yet.

After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning my wife took me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only was I worried about the procedure, but I have been experiencing occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage.

I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?" How do you apologized to a friend for something like that?

Flowers would not be enough.

At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said.

Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked.

Then a nurse named Edie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Edie was very good and I was already lying down.

Edie, also told me that some people put vodka in their MovePrep.

At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode.

You would have no choice but to burn your house down.

When everything was ready, Edie wheeled me into the procedure room where Andy was waiting with the nurse and an anesthesiologist I did not see the 17,000 foot tube but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere, I was nervous, seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist begin hooking something up to the needle in my hand.

There was music playing in the room, and the song was "Dancing Queen" by Abba, I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, "Dancing Queen" has to be the least appropriate.

"You want me to turn it up" said Andy, from somewhere behind me. "Ha ha," I said. And then it was time, the moment I have been dreading for more than a decade.

If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.

I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was yelling "Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine," and the next moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood.

Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent. I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that it was all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors.

I have never been prouder of an internal organ.

Have you heard of “the second brain”? This is a term commonly used when describing the gut area of our digestive system. Our gut is the only organ that has its own independent nervous system. It is a very sophisticated system that houses around 200 million neurons in the gut wall. To put this in perspective, a dog has about the same number of neurons in its brain.

In our digestive system, there are different types of bacteria that influence how our body functions. For example, 90-95 percent of our body’s serotonin is created by gut bacteria! Serotonin is known as the “happy hormone.” Bacteria in our gut isn’t always good bacteria. Bad bacteria is also housed in our gut, which creates a necessary balance for our body to thrive. However, when the ratio of good bacteria to bad bacteria is unbalanced, our health can be affected in many ways. This is why it is so important to supplement with good bacteria that help our gut thrive! Probiotics are supplements that provide that good bacteria straight to our digestive system.

Our family relies on Life 9® for our probiotic needs.
Life 9® is Young Living’s proprietary, high-potency probiotic. It contains 17 billion live cultures from nine beneficial bacteria strains for full-spectrum gut support. It promotes healthy digestion, supports gut health, and helps maintain normal intestinal function for overall support of a healthy immune system.* Life 9 has a specially designed delayed-release capsule, which makes the bacteria available only when the capsule hits the intestines.
