Karen Green for Florida

Democratic candidate for Congressional District 7. Fighting to protect the pocket books of Florida's families.

Thanks to District 7 Voters

Yesterday I came up short of the votes necessary to represent constituents of Florida’s Congressional District 7 in the US House of Representatives. However, many District 7 voters did entrust me with their precious vote during this campaign, and for that I am very grateful. Last night, I was able to thank my campaign team in Sanford, but I also want to express my appreciation to volunteers in Seminole and Volusia County who were unable to join us, but who knocked on doors, made phone calls, and put up signs all across the district on my behalf.
Consistent with my appreciation for the integrity in our election process, I contacted Mr. Mills last evening to extend him my congratulations and to wish him well in serving the district. In our race, my campaign faced substantial headwinds in large measure due to how District 7 was gerrymandered in Tallahassee and the millions of dollars in campaign spending by my opponent that we were simply unable to match, but we ran a clean and honest campaign that resonated with many people. I am proud of the effort we exerted, which allowed my campaign to equal the performance of some of my much better-funded Democratic counterparts. In the months and years to come, I will continue to work to make our area one that works better for all of our citizens, which protects our democracy in which all their voices can be heard, and in which our politics more closely reflect the neighborly goodwill we often feel towards one another. The future lies ahead, and I look forward to working with you to help to positively shape it for our children and grandchildren.
God bless you all and our America! 🙏🏽

Seminole and Volusia families, I'm ready to represent you in Congress. My life story will testify to my values and my ability to serve you:

SENIOR MEDICARE & MEDICAID
I was delighted that the Build Back Better (BBB) Act started providing essential relief for American families by lowering drug prices and extending affordable coverage to millions of Americans by closing Medicaid’s coverage gap. It expanded Medicare benefits to include hearing care and invested $150 billion in at home care for seniors and people with disabilities. Sadly, Build Back Better, was opposed by every single House Republican.
Americans have benefited directly by regulations preventing drug prices from outpacing inflation, and by having insulin co-pays capped at $35 per month. This should help remedy the situation faced by seniors when 2021 an estimated 1.3 million diabetic adults rationed insulin doses to save money.
Starting in 2024, Build Back Better will limit Medicare Part D out-of-pocket drug costs to $2,000 annually. Furthermore, the Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that the new Medicare hearing benefit could help 62 million program participants, and those 36 million, who buy their own coverage or go without.
Medicaid is the largest provider of home and community-based care to seniors and people with disabilities, and BBB now provides care to 2.5 million people in the program, and it will help reduce the wait for care for more than 800,000 individuals. Also, whereas seniors and people with disabilities have often had to liquidate their assets to pay for just two years of in-home care, BBB’s Home & Community Based Services provisions will save families paying out-of-pocket an estimated $5,800 annually.

WOMAN'S RIGHTS
Too many women are concerned about making ends meet. They face pay inequality, insufficient resources to fund their businesses, and worries about the economic future of their children. COVID heightened these concerns. Women were in the front lines and greatly suffered.
Dobbs stripped a fundamental human from a large majority of women. The Federal Government should not have the right to keep you from bearing arms and it should not have the right to remove fundamental choices from women.
They also have to deal with disparities in wages and healthcare. Equal pay for equal work is a woman’s right. We must invest more in women-owned small businesses, expand access to education and training, and strengthen pay and benefits. We protect women by addressing paid maternity and sick leave, better compensation for those who take care of elderly family members, and expanding childcare access..
I will work with all entities to protect the rights of women. I will work to bring more resources to women-owned businesses and to close the income gap. I will work to ensure that women have increased access to expanded educational and training opportunities. Women’s rights are human rights.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
There is an urgent need to close the affordable housing gap especially as rents rise and mortgages increase. We can leverage federal funding to provide cities and states with the necessary resources to undertake affordable housing projects. The production of more manufactured housing will also assist in closing the housing gap. The encouragement of owner-occupiers of affordable housing must be encouraged.
Record low interest rates along with under-building of affordable housing over a number of years has contributed to high housing costs and the housing gap. Working with cities and the state, I commit to apply the values I learned throughout my life to finding solutions.

WORKER'S RIGHTS
The great American middle class was built by strong union participation. Workers had the protection to organize to fight for better wages and better working conditions, things we take for granted today. It was because of unionizing that workers were able to take care of their families, had protections from unreasonable dismissals and had job security. Today, we have seen laws at the state and local levels decimate rights workers had enjoyed for nearly a century. Republican governors and state legislatures across the country have advanced anti-worker legislation to undercut the labor movement and collective bargaining. States have decimated the rights of public sector workers who, unlike private sector workers, do not have federal protections ensuring their freedom to organize and collectively bargain. If we are to rebuild the middle class, we have to protect workers’ rights. We must ensure that they have the right to organize. We must not go back to the days when workers could be dismissed at the slightest whim. As your representative, I will work across the board and across the aisle to help restore and strengthen workers’ rights.

CIVIL LIBERTIES
The safeguarding of America’s democracy is one way of ensuring that the civil liberties of all citizens will be protected. Our democracy must work for all of the people and not just for all citizens. We are a beacon to others when we root out systemic racism. It still exists in every walk of life. My life story has informed me and understands a path to healing and growth.
The fostering of civic engagement is paramount in safeguarding civil liberties. As your elected representative, I will work to ensure that laws and policies do not negatively impact our. As your elected representative, I will work together with our community leaders to ensure that all necessary services come to our communities and that no one is left behind.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Residents of US House District 7 are blessed with the many environmental wonders that surround us from our east to west and from north to south such as the Canaveral National Seashore; Lakes Monroe, Jesup, and Harney; and the Little Big Econ State Forest. Several of these ecological treasures have been put under increasing strain from pollution and climate catastrophes. For economic and moral reasons, I will work tirelessly to provide federal aid to protect these critical parts of our local landscape and to promote development that is smart and sustainable.
I will always work to ensure that our federal emergency management capabilities are prepared to respond to whatever adverse weather here in District 7. We increasingly see negative signs of climate change all around us. However, we must do more than simply respond to the effects of climate change and support policies that will move us to a greener future where we increasingly rely on renewable energy sources and decrease our dependence on fossil fuels. My instincts are different from my Republican challenger who wants to “drill, baby drill.” My approach will pay dividends for our national security in light of the fact the U.S. intelligence community predicts increased conflicts and war due to climate change. Climate Change and International Responses Increasing Challenges to US National Security Through 2040.

VETERAN AFFAIRS
Our country has a sacred responsibility to care for our veterans. Each veteran deserves our respect and enduring gratitude. We have a responsibility to create jobs for our veterans when they return home. We must invest in creating such jobs. We should also create the means to support veteran-owned small businesses and give them the means to continue to support their families. We need to create a system to provide veterans with world-class healthcare after they have hung up their uniform for good. To provide the kind of healthcare our veterans deserve, we must start by modernizing the facilities where they receive healthcare. After sacrificing to preserve our democracy and freedoms, our veterans should not have to get their healthcare at facilities that are not on par with those provided to others in the society.

During this campaign season, my challenger for Florida US House D7 has consistently avoided debating the issues w/ me. Nevertheless, I continue to listen to & speak with D7 residents about the burning issues of our day so I can more effectively solve problems and represent them.
