As Thanksgiving approaches, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones. In light of the holiday, we wanted to share some safety tips to ensure your pets stay healthy and safe during this festive season.
Thanksgiving Safety Tips for Pets:
1. Health Risks: Avoid feeding pets fatty foods, bones, and holiday sweets, as these can be harmful. Chocolate, artificial sweeteners like xylitol, yeast dough, and certain foods like onions, raisins, and grapes are particularly dangerous for pets.
2. Trash Disposal: Properly dispose of turkey carcasses and food scraps to prevent pets from accessing them, as they can be deadly if consumed
3. Beware of Plants: Some decorative plants and flowers can be toxic to pets. Keep them away from these plants to avoid any health risks
4. Emergency Preparedness: If you suspect your pet has ingested something harmful, contact your veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately. **The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call 888-426-4435. A consultation fee may apply.**
Adjustments to Our Hours: To accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday, please note our adjusted hours:
Wednesday, 11/22/23: Closing early at 4:30 PM
Thursday, 11/23/23: Closed for Thanksgiving
Friday, 11/24/23: Closing early at 5:00 PM
Additional Holiday Precautions:
If hosting guests, consider your pet's comfort. Keep them in a separate room if needed to reduce stress and anxiety, and give their prescribed anxiety medication as directed 2 hours prior to your guest arrival.

We will be closed Tuesday July 4th! We hope you have a happy and safe holiday!
Tips for pets:
• Don’t give them any BBQ meats, corn cobs, salads, bones, desserts etc. Don’t let them get into the trash cans. We want to avoid pancreatitis and foreign bodies!
• Try to keep pets in doors in a calm and quiet place during the fireworks, if they are outside make sure they have a collar with up to date contact info, and ideally a microchip with up to date contact info.
• Medicate as directed by their veterinarian 2 hours prior to fireworks.
Fourth of July is right around the corner! If your pet is afraid of fireworks reach out to the office now to allow time for a doctor to approve a medication and have staff fill it.
We will be closed this coming Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. We want to thank all those who have served or are serving. We hope everyone has a happy, safe and healthy long holiday weekend - be back Tuesday!
We have certainly started to see an increase of patients coming in for possible foxtails. We expect there the be lots of foxtails and burrs out there this season due to our heavy rainfall. It is always a good idea to do a thorough full body check on your dogs after taking them out, and if you have any concerns we’re here for you! Sudden onset of heavy sneezing or intense head shaking can be signs that your pet has picked one up. If you have a dog with long fur between its toes, we recommend shaving it short to reduce the area the foxtails can hang on and hide. Keep to the path, the beach, and the groomed grass whenever possible!
HIGH DANGER -- FOXTAILS!
As you can see in this picture of foxtails, the seed has a sharp end that can easily jab into the skin and create a puncture wound. Because the seed is sleek, it can slide deeper into the tissue without much difficulty and is hard to remove. Foxtails can easily pe*****te a dog’s skin or burrow into places like the nose, ears, eyes, and paws.
Check your pet's belly, ears, face, legs, and between their toes when they are outside so you can remove foxtails BEFORE they create a problem!
