We are thrilled to announce our very own will be presenting this year!

This workshop will give you the tools and confidence to help your league become more explicitly inclusive to all genders with an emphasis on trans and q***r support.
Blight will offer stories of our league’s experience with a presentation and productive discussion to break down what we can do as a community to make roller derby more accessible and expansive.

Starry Blight (he/him) is a relatively new skater to the sport and excited to be a part of it! He initially joined our league in June of 2022 with zero skating experience, and is now very involved as a skater. Blight is currently a Co-Captain and is also on our Board of Directors serving as one of the Membership Co-Chairs and Safety Officer. Blight is a big advocate on and off the track for trans and q***r issues, and really wants to open up conversations about how everyone in the roller derby community can do better and unlearn harmful assumptions about q***r and trans athletes.

Skating Spicy: Making Your League Supportive for Neurodivergent Players

We are thrilled to announce our President and coach, Bruiseberry Muffin, will be presenting !

This session will give skaters, game staff, and team leadership personal insights into what it’s really like to be a neurospicy derby badass from someone who not only lives it but works in mental health community education. From the lowest lows to the highest highs, learn how leagues can recruit, support, and capitalize on the talents of these frequently marginalized folks.

Mental health is not simply a buzzword for our beloved Bruiseberry Muffin. As an individual living in recovery from multiple mental illnesses, every day is a gift and a gauntlet.
Professionally, Muffin creates programming for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) out of Ventura County, CA.

In case you missed it (but honestly, how could you?)--we hosted our first home game of the season on Saturday to celebrate Pride Month! Huge thanks to Angel City Derby's Road Ragers for bringing the good vibes and hard hits as our opponents for the evening!

Home bout production is always a massive effort and we are forever in awe of our community for making it happen--and having fun while doing it!

All for Love Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit group dedicated to saving dogs from shelters in Southern California. If you get to the bout early, you might just get to meet some adorable adoptable dogs!

The Brawlin' Betties stand in solidarity with the Santa Barbara Teachers Association. Santa Barbara teachers are the lowest paid teachers as compared to the cost of living in California. Other less resourced communities manage to value their teachers more than SBUSD. Over the past 2 years, SBUSD has lost 200 teachers to neighboring communities who pay their workers a better wage, offer better healthcare, and support student centered proposals from their teachers’ unions. We are honored to have members of the SBTA blow the first whistle at our upcoming home bout -- this Saturday, June 8th! They will also have a resource and information table set up to share more details about their purpose.

3. Pledge Your Support in the Event a Strike becomes Necessary

5. Display a "WE SUPPORT SB TEACHERS" sign in your local business (email [email protected] to get yours today!)
6. Attend, and speak, at a school board meeting in person or on zoom (next board meeting is June 11)

Our captains planned an amazing team bonding weekend for our league at Lake Cachuma 💖💖 Nature, hammocks, games, s’mores, and derby pals—it doesn’t get any better than that!
