Older males will fight with one another to protect and mate with a group of females, or harem. One alpha male may mate with 30-50 females in a breeding season! Those who lose the fights may seek a “bachelor beach” where they are away from the action. Better luck next year, bud!

Stormy Seas in Southport -

This peculiarly named lighthouse, Cuckolds, took major damage from the storms Wednesday and yesterday. After getting some great images of Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse in the last storm, I wanted to see one of the only other easily visible offshore lighthouses with heavy exposure to the elements on the Coast of Maine. I was not disappointed in the views, but seeing the docks washing away in front of me while I photographed this was not enjoyable.

I really wanted to check out so many other places along the coast yesterday, but there were many locations that were almost too dangerous to visit, and many that I knew would be well-covered by friends and other photographers. There are so many places near and dear to my heart around here, and my thoughts are with all of the property owners who had damage.

I've been out a lot, and also shared a lot of footage from the last week. I'm ready for a calm, quiet stretch. How about you?

I wanted a different perspective on Portland Head Light, so I stood on top of one of the old fortifications and looked down. With the people walking through the frame, you get a good sense of the size and power of these waves. They were absolutely massive.
