Does your Cub Scout Den have a Den Chief?
A Den Chief from one of the local Scouts BSA Troops serves a great support to Den Leaders (running games, teaching skills, etc.). They help Cub Scouts stay active in scouting and bridge into Scouts BSA Troops.
Being a Den Chief also helps the scout learn to teach and lead as they consistently work with their den week after week.
We have scouts across the district interested in serving as a Den Chief for your pack. Talk with Troop leaders at Roundtable to get connected with an interested scout and take advantage of this tool in your pack!

Introductory Den Chief Training is available online and in stock at SCV Scoutshop are the Den Chief Handbooks.
How to make better use of Den Chiefs - Scouting magazine Because den chiefs play such an important role in supporting den leaders and encouraging Cub Scouts to cross over into Boy Scouting, Scouter J.W. wants suggestions on how pack and troop leaders can recruit and retain quality Boy Scouts for this position.

Troop 583 Backpack to Sheep Camp via the 321 Challenge (3 peaks 2 counties 1 day). Started the trip with a quick Automotive MB demo, Mikes Pizza at Chula Vista campground, and then a day’s hiking to Sheep Camp (no sheep) via Mt Pinos and Sawmill Mountain, and then a side hike to Grouse Mountain after setting up camp. The wind and water at Sheep camp spring were on our side to have a campfire. Final Philmont Prep shakedown for our crew plus a few other Scouts came too on their 2nd Troop backpack. Quite a few patches of snow on the trail especially the switchbacks down to Sawmill saddle, otherwise great weather!
Celebration of our outstanding scouting community.
