I know ive been absent here for awhile, super busy, but there's a ton of info i want to share to make sure rabbits out there are healthy as they can be.

Hi bunny friends.
I just saw a post about a girls rabbit that just ate part of her indoor plant, a pothos.
Most house plants are toxic to pets. Rabbits, cats and dogs etc.
But pothos sounds particularly nasty if ingested.
Here's what I found out about this plant.

"While they aren’t typically deadly, pothos plants have an insoluble calcium oxalate crystal within their leaves and stems. These crystals are like shards of glass that will literally rip, tear, and shred the skin. This includes places like the hands, paws, face, mouth, throat, and even digestive system. There have been a few cases, though very rare, where the irritation even causes swelling in the upper part of the airway. This can make it hard to breathe and might be cause for a hospital visit."

All house plants should be well out of reach from all pets.
And as you know already, rabbits are like 2 year olds, they need constant supervision.

Don't know how her rabbit is doing, but I hope there's a full recovery

"No one would make a little space for us... and now I've lost the only true love I've known..." Update on little Tona -- the small, young bun who was dumped pregnant to East Valley Shelter and gave birth...

We begged for a new foster so we could get Tona and her infants out of shelter medical. No one was willing to foster them, so there she sat with her beloved newborns... doing her best to care for them. (see album).

Every last one of Tona's babies has now perished; born and died in a metal cell, and now she is truly alone and more desolate than ever. In her short life thus far -- this sweet bunny has suffered exploitation, negligent caregiving, abandonment, and betrayal by owner... and now the terrifying experience of giving birth at the pound, and then losing her babies one by one. Ive tracked numbers over 10 years, the average age at the pound is 8 months to 2 years.
Probably almost all Easter, birthday or Christmas "presents".
We have to stop the flow. We need more public education.

Be a responsible parent. Teach your kids that rabbits are not Easter toys. Rescues are full of neglected and unwanted rabbits originally bought for children. Rabbits should never be purchased for children. They should only be adopted as family members and adults should take full responsibility. Baby rabbits are docile and innocent. They let children pick them up and cuddle them but their personality soon changes as they reach maturity. They might bite, scratch, spray, become territorial and aggressive. Of course, pet shops and breeders won't tell you that! It's not fair that rabbits then suffer on their own, misunderstood and locked up for the rest of their lives, neglected, given away or abandoned.
