Strep throat : the Masked Menace.
School is starting, and many of the kids will get strep throat. Many grownups ignore it, send their kids to play with the others saying "toughen up, its just a sore throat". And it is, albeit an awful one, until it sneaks up and sends someone to the hospital. 15% of certain strains develop acute kidney inflamation (glomerulonephritis ). 3% develop rheumaticfever, which effects the heart, nerves, and more. Some develop PANDAS (not the cute kind, the twitchy kind). So, if your little one comes up with strep throat, keep an eye on them at home, and don't spread it to other folks, thanks.

Participated in a wellness faire for a local school district on Friday through Experience Wellness! It was a lot of fun--lots of ear acupuncture for stress of course, but also some leg and arm points. Great opportunity to help out some hard workers in our community. Pictured are some parts of my whimsical travel kit--it is always good to keep things light and cheerful! R2d2 has q-tips, keep calm has some needles. (More supplies out of sight)

Herbal formula preparation!
Sometimes medicine is fun!
This was the bottom part of some instructions for a tea I made for a patient. Put the flowers and fruits etc in a cup, pour hot water on top, sip all day until gone! Some people are more picture oriented than others. ;)
It's Autumn, time to make an appointment for an herb consult! I love making custom herb teas for patients to help with everything from stress to allergies to back pain. Each year for 5 years at school I learned about Chinese herbs and formulas, and then even more in CEUs. Its one of the reasons I got into this medicine. Call or text 831-325-3922 to make an appointment.

HOW ACUPUNCTURE CARE WORKS
Acupuncture is great for providing relief from pain and other health issues. In order to maintain this relief, continued treatments are needed. Over time the symptoms will go away and stop coming back as the body is able to maintain healing itself.
Continuing care after the symptoms have reduced is essential. It is where you get to overall better health and well-being - fewer colds, fewer days with joint pain, fewer digestive issues, etc...
Traditional medicine has a long history of contributing to conventional medicine and continues to hold promise Traditional medicine is sometimes seen as pre-scientific, its practices and treatments to be replaced by modern, better, more efficient science-based medicine.

People ask me "Why so many pictures of flowers on your feed? Isn't this is an acupuncture page?"
I got into this field because of herbs, which are a major piece of the medicine. Herbs pop up and thrive in unexpected places-- like our Gardens! While most showy flowers that you see around you are cultivars--not the medicinal versions-- they still remind us that better health could be at your very fingertips.
Pictured are a red peony cultivar and a yellow rose cultivar in bloom. If these were the medicinal versions, when harvested and prepared correctly these plants could be used to help with blood problems/circulation issues like pain, headaches, cramps, and more.

Rainy days are good for talking. Sometimes people say "I am afraid of needles" because of previous experiences. I ask if it would help to see how small the needles I use are. Look how small and adorable they are! You can barely see the needles below the blue handles!
December has arrived! Stay warm inside and out, and remember to care of yourselves as the holidays arrive. Acupuncture is self care. Acupuncture is beneficial whether or not you have a "condition"; in fact, it helps avoid developing or worsening a condition.
