Senator Wiener issued the following statement:
“Acupuncture is a critical health care tool to manage chronic pain and for other health needs. We need to ensure people can access acupuncture, including lower income people who rely on Medi-Cal for health care. The state faces serious budget challenges this year, but acupuncture treatments can save us money in the long run by preventing those with chronic pain from switching to dangerously addictive opioids. I’m extremely grateful to leaders in the acupuncture community and the Legislative API Caucus — especially Assemblymembers Ting and Low — for fighting for the community and working with me on this important need.”
I’m thrilled to be on the team at The Key IOP, a holistic and evidence-based intensive outpatient program for addiction and mental health. It’s a beautiful, inviting space conveniently located in downtown Santa Cruz, with the most caring and capable providers.

It’s been a Heart 7 kind of day. Perhaps it’s the steady storms, flooding, power outages, road closures…
This point gently calms the mind and promotes stability. It’s great for stress, worry, and anxiety, as well as palpitations and heart rate variability.
The calm before the next . Stay safe out there.
Beautiful day for it. Happy holidays!

🐴 After over 20 years, I started taking weekly riding lessons 2 years ago, and it’s a big highlight of my week. The more you learn, the less you know, and animals are such great teachers.
Last week the CDC updated their Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain to include recommendations for noninvasive nonpharmacologic treatments such as acupuncture. Acupuncture is mentioned several times in the 100 page document as a cost-effective, beneficial alternative to opioids for acute and chronic pain.
While the events that occurred yesterday are being referred to as a hoax or a prank, I know the effect on your minds, bodies, and hearts is very real. While acupuncture is no replacement for traditional therapy, it excels at calming and regulating the nervous system. I’d like to offer free mini stress relief treatments next week to those affected. I’m a one woman show, with a one room treatment space, so I will accommodate as best I can. First come, first serve. Please reach out to me directly to schedule, as these appointments won’t be available to book online.

A large facet of Chinese medicine is preventative. As the seasons start to shift, and the temperature fluctuations are greater, you probably notice more colds going around. Acupuncture and herbs can be a great way keep your immune system strong in this transition from late summer to fall.
Jade Screen is a very popular formula to prevent colds and flu, as well as allergies. I really like Griffo’s modified version, which includes elderberry and an immune regulating mushroom complex.
Little did I know that my software was collecting sweet little patient reviews. What a gift to stumble upon. 💛
This is a powerful and versatile liniment handmade in small batches with the highest quality herbs. Traditionally Zheng Gu Shui was used in martial arts for injuries and bone setting. It’s a topical analgesic that penetrates quickly to increase circulation and decrease pain, bruising, swelling and inflammation.
If you’re a patient, you are likely familiar with it. I use it daily on patients and myself for things like:
- Acute or chronic pain and injuries
- Sprains or strains
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Tendinitis
- Bruising
- Insect bites
🎶 Make new friends, but keep the ooooold! Elaine is my acupuncture school bestie. We met at orientation in 2004 and were inseparable until school ended 4 years later and she moved east. We chat at least once a week to talk shop and life, but haven’t seen each other in 7 years. She joined the family vacay and fit right in. 🥰
💆🏻♀️ New patients are always amazed by how relaxing acupuncture is. Even those who tell me they’re afraid of needles have been known to fall asleep. I pride myself on having a gentle hand, and upon the insertion of the first needle, most people say, “Wow! That’s it? I didn’t feel a thing!”.
🌱 For those who are nervous about needles, I often cut down on the number of needles and supplement with the use of essential oils on acupuncture points, which is another gentle yet effective complement to acupuncture.
💛 If you consider yourself needle-phobic, don’t be afraid to try acupuncture. The needles are teeny tiny - hair thin, as we acupuncturists like to say.
Back pain is the thing I treat most. I love treating it because acupuncture works so well for both acute and chronic pain. It helps by stimulating the peripheral nervous system, which increases blood circulation thereby decreasing pain and inflammation.
Consider giving it a try if you’re experiencing:
➡️ aches or pain from new or old injuries
➡️ muscle tension or spasm
➡️ strains
➡️ sciatic pain
➡️ SI joint pain
➡️ glute or hip pain
➡️ numbness and/or tingling

✨ Cupping is the application of glass or plastic cups by using a flame or a pump to create a vacuum. By decompressing the skin and underlying tissues, it brings a fresh blood supply to the area. This increase in blood circulation resupplies the tissues with oxygen and other nutrients, and clears cellular (inhibitory) waste products. This can help with chronic and acute pain and injuries, muscle soreness and fatigue from exercise, and can even help respiratory issues by boosting the immune system.

Neck and upper back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek out acupuncture. It’s very effective for treating pain and muscle tension if you:
😴 Slept in a weird position
🏋️♀️ Are sore from a tough workout
🏌🏻♀️Strained a muscle
👼 Are nursing or caring for little ones
💻 Spent too much time at the computer
💥 Aggravated an old injury
⚡️Are experiencing numbness or tingling

Welcome to my new office! ☺️🤩🥳
✨It’s the end of an era. Countless treatments and magical moments happened in this sweet little room over the last 14 years. I’m grateful to all who were an integral part of it.
It’s hard, yet bittersweet, to say goodbye, as I look forward to the magic my new space will bring. ✨
