What is Biomimetic dentistry? Let's talk about it!
 
Although there is a lot more to Biomimetic dentistry than this, generally speaking, it is about preserving healthy tooth structure while at the same time providing strength and function, with materials that share similar strength and flex properties compared to the area of tooth structure we are replacing.
 
Traditionally, a crown prep requires approximately 60% of the tooth to be removed so it can be covered with a crown. This is the dentistry that has been practiced for the last 60 years.
 
With advancements in adhesive dentistry, we no longer need aggressive drilling to achieve the traditional crown prep design just to be able to hold onto a crown. We can now minimal prep and replace just the defective areas with a material that is similar in modulus of elasticity for dentin (inner tooth structure) and enamel (outer tooth structure), while at the same time, keeping the original strength of the tooth.
 
As always, with our holistic background, we restore in this fashion while utilizing only materials that have been tested to be biocompatible, BPA free, fluoride free, and metal free.

Let’s talk about implants!

The last thing anybody wants is a crooked implant, an implant that accidentally hits a nerve or adjacent tooth, or anything less than the perfect implant placement!

Here at Holistic Smiles LA, Dr. Monempour only places surgically guided implants. This means that with the help of CBCT technology and an iTero scanner (in-house), we are able to capture a 3D scan of the hard and soft tissues and virtually place implants EXACTLY where we want them. We send the file to our digital dental lab that then sends us the surgical guide. The surgical guide is similar to a custom clear Invisalign retainer with a hole in it that will direct the implant to the EXACT spot, with precise angulation, as planned during the virtual surgery pictured above.
