The children of JCC SoCo Preschool have worked diligently over the past week to create their own hanukiahs! We started with sanding our wood, before painting and adding jewels and corks. They finalized their masterpieces with candle holders to prepare for the 8 nights of Hanukkah. We made sure to make our Shamash (helper candle) taller than the rest! Chag Sameach! Happy Hanukkah 🩵
The JCC of Sonoma County stands in solidarity with the people of Israel. We mourn the losses and strongly support the brave men and women of the IDF, Israeli Police and Fire services. Last night the City of Healdsburg presented a proclamation declaring May 2022 as Jewish American Heritage Month for the city. Our JCC invited all Jewish households that we have records of (over 100) to join us to celebrate the proclamation. The response was wonderful! Neighbors met neighbors they didn’t know as well as meeting new residents. Connecting the Jewish community is what the JCC does and last night was so meaningful to those who attended.

Last week Scott Brrockmsan, our Executive Director, was interviewed by the Press Democrat about the Petaluma resident responsible for the distribution of antisemitic flyers around the Bay Area and country. Quotes below - click the link to read the entire piece.
"...In an interview with The Press Democrat, Minadeo repeatedly emphasized he does not urge violence. So while his internet videos may be racist, gay-bashing and viciously antisemitic, he said he bears no responsibility for any real-world incidents they might trigger.
Jews living in the North Bay find the argument laughable. That was literally the reaction of Scott Brockman, who moved here in August to take a position as executive director of the Jewish Community Center of Sonoma County. He laughed out loud when presented with Minadeo’s denial of accountability.
“That’s ridiculous,” he said. “If I were to ask him, what’s the purpose then of his rhetoric? And if he would say to me something like, ‘I want people to be aware of what’s going on’? Well, OK, to what end? Words are not used to just spill out words. Words and thoughts and speech are used to move somebody to action. Whether it’s to purchase a product, or to buy into an idea, or to storm the Capitol.”
In this case, Brockman argued, the inevitable outcome is violence. “Because if you’re teaching hate, that someone is less human than you, less deserving than you, where will that lead? It never leads to anything good..."
How North Bay Jews are confronting antisemitic hate speech All agree that a Petaluma man’s flyers and videos present a real danger, but there is less consensus on how to confront it.
Here at Three Corners Estate we crafted a Pinot that is Purim and Pun forward. Shelosh Pinot is inspired by Haman’s hat which had three corners or in Hebrew “Shelosh Pinot”. Shelosh is three.
Pinot is the plural for corner but pronounced with a hard T at the end.
We think you’ll find this bottled Pinot pun delicious. It pairs well with anyway you celebrate Purim or any Wednesday late winter evening activity.
