James Habersham Jr. was deeply involved in the economic and political life of colonial Georgia. The house witnessed many significant events, including the front porch reading of the Declaration of Independence during the American Revolution. It served various purposes during this period, including as a meeting place for revolutionaries and a headquarters for British troops.

In the early 19th century, the house became a bank, further embedding itself in the commercial life of Savannah. By the mid-20th century, it had fallen into disrepair, but efforts to preserve Savannah’s historic buildings led to its restoration and conversion into a restaurant in the 1970s.

Today, the Old Pink House is not only a fine dining establishment but also a cherished historic site, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Savannah and the stories of the people who shaped the city. Its blend of colonial architecture, storied past, and southern hospitality make it a beloved landmark in Savannah.

In December 1864, after his famous "March to the Sea," General William Tecumseh Sherman captured Savannah, Georgia. On December 22, 1864, Sherman sent a telegram to President Abraham Lincoln, famously offering the city of Savannah as a Christmas gift. Sherman's headquarters in Savannah was the Green-Meldrim House, a stunning Gothic Revival mansion. The house was used by Sherman as his headquarters and later became known for its historical significance and beautiful architecture.
