The strongest earthquake to ever hit the east coast was a 7.3 with an epicenter outside Charleston, SC. It was felt through much of the east coast and damaged several buildings in Savannah. Plaster walls were knocked down in the Drane House and eventually repaired. Invitations were found in the wall during renovations from Eliza Drane, which fell behind the wall during the earthquake. Today, this house (built 1884, Gwinnett Street) is the Thomas Weihs Haus Bed & Breakfast. This is one of many houses that received damage from that earthquake. (Johnny Mercer grew up next door)
