Wonderful evening celebrating Empower’s expansion! Originally founded to support girls who have lost their mother, their mission now includes empowering, supporting, and connecting boys, girls and nonbinary youth who have experienced the loss of their mother or father. 💙 📷: Lexi Brenner Photography
With great gratitude for all your support, we’re excited to share that proceeds from the first Greg Shinney Memorial Golf Tournament were donated to two amazing organizations with local roots. The Greg Shinney Memorial Fund was founded to honor Greg’s legacy by donating to nonprofits that directly support children and young adults who have lost a parent.
Donations were made to Empower and Hope Floats – organizations we admire for their commitment to supporting bereaved families.
Empower, Inc. offers a range of year-round programs and activities provided at no charge to the family, nurturing an inspiring, diverse community and proving that not only can you survive parent loss — you can thrive.
Hope Floats Healing & Wellness Center is a bereavement and educational center for adults, children, teens, and their families who are grieving, dealing with illness, or facing other life challenges.
THANK YOU to every one of you who made the tournament a wonderful success! Thank you for joining us to golf, sponsoring, donating, buying raffle tickets, bidding on auction items, volunteering, donating raffle and auction items, and spending the day remembering Greg! It was incredible to see so many people come together for a special cause - a testament to his impact on the people in his life.
Thank you Ricky Gould and the Sheraton Sand Key Resort for your donation to our silent auction! Who wants to win a two night stay on the beach?!

This tournament is an opportunity for us to remember Greg and raise funds for children who have lost a parent. Proceeds will benefit the newly formed Greg Shinney Memorial Fund.
The Greg Shinney Memorial Fund honors the life of Gregory C. Shinney by donating to nonprofits that directly support children and young adults who have lost a parent.
Greg was the greatest inspiration for living a loving, joyful life after loss. He lost his mother, Noreen, at age 8 and his father, Charles at age 14. His loving aunt and uncle and brothers supported him through his losses and the remainder of his life.
Greg passed unexpectedly at the age of 51, when his cherished children, Caroline and Charlie, were 15 and 12. His loved ones have started this organization to honor his life and keep his memory alive for Caroline, Charlie and his beloved wife Amy.
Save the date for the Greg Shinney Memorial Golf Tournament - October 13, 2023 at Widow's Walk in Scituate! Registration opening soon - stay tuned.
