Scituate's Chuck Harris: Hero in the Harbor

“The Scituate fishing industry is made up of hearty tough individuals...If they see someone in need of assistance, especially one of their peers, they will assist immediately, no questions asked.” Incredible!!

The Scituate native was at the Town Pier at 6 a.m. to give lobstermen some bait, and his forklift wouldn’t work. “It was just so cold,” Harris said. “No matter what I did, it just wouldn’t work.” Harris figured he would return a few h...

Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts

We would like to feature Smoke and Whisk again and ask people to share it.
Hoping for holiday miracles. They have been at the Shelter
in cages for 8 months, which can be confining and stressful for them.
They're about 2 years old and very friendly and sweet but can be shy at first. They are considered "special needs" pets because they eventually will need all of their teeth removed due to having stomatitis, an inflammation of the mouth (cats can live long, healthy lives without teeth). The Shelter will be covering the cost of the surgery. There will be no adoption fee charged. They do not have to go together, although it would be nice if they could as they are brothers! They get along with other cats but do not care for dogs. They would do best in a home with older kids because they're shy.

We are happy to announce that proceeds from The Scituate Rocks December 7th Consignment Sale will benefit 12 Women Care.

They are a group of 12 women from one community who are committed to making a direct local impact through deliberate generosity. Together they are social entrepreneurs capable of delivering small miracles to other people. Each spring they organize and sponsor The Great Scituate Scavenger Hunt where the charity or community organization for whom the winning team is playing receives 100% of the proceeds from this event.

They are primarily self funded with dues from their 12 members but on occasion they receive a donation that helps defray costs and helps sponsor the Scavenger Hunt. They are most proud of their conscious effort to always keep a single donation to $220 or less. This helps them think about how they spend that money. They have consistently seen these "micro" donations have a tremendous impact. Knowing their recipients and their story is so powerful.
