A week ago Tuesday, I held a class at Nantasket beach. Figuring it would be quiet at this time of year. Well, first off the surf was up, so that most of the parking spots were taken by the surfers, and two, it was really the first plus 80 degree day since last summer.. as we painted just more and more beach goers showed up.. It's always an honor to host Scituate High School's student art show annually. The reception Sunday was fun and enlightening. A meet and greet of the oldies and the newbies in the art world.
Call for Entries for the Scituate Arts Association's Annual Juried Show is open. Online entry via EntryThingy ends March 13th. The show will be at our Front Street Art Gallery in Scituate Harbor, April 5 - 28. An awards reception will be Friday, April 19 at 7pm. On-line Entry Only. The Scituate Arts Assoc is offering a Sailor’s Valentine Workshop:
"Join us on Sunday, February 25th, 1-4pm (with an inclement weather date of March 3rd) at the Ellis House at 709 Country Way, Scituate, MA to create your own beautiful Sailor's Valentine! Supplies and workshop leader provided. $100.00 per person which includes supplies. Sailor's Valentines are a beautiful way to preserve favorite seashells from your own collection, along with the shells provided during the workshop. Glass-front wooden shadow boxes also provided. The Sailor's Valentine tradition dates back to the early 19th Century when sailors, away from loved ones for months at a time, collected seashells and sea glass from their travels and glued them into beautiful patterns inside glass covered boxes, gifting the valentines to their loved ones upon their return. Have a cozy day enjoying art at the Scituate Library Gallery, a satellite gallery of the Scituate Arts Association. Our theme this year is "Art Illuminates". Currently showing 14 artists from our Front Street Art Gallery. Artists will be changing out their works a few times by the end of March. Easy to purchase with QR codes.

The Art of Giving show is up in Front Street Art Gallery. Works are priced under $200 to give as gifts. These framed mixed media pieces, by Kathleen Mogayzel, are a sample of the many choices.

FAIRY HOUSE WORKSHOP -CORRECTED day/time!
Create your own fairy house out of natural materials like wood, bark, seed pods, shells, pinecones, pebbles, grasses, dried flowers, shelf fungus, moss- all kinds. Bring an adult/teen assistant to create your house. Maybe when you’re done a fairy may come for tea or even move in! Materials provided, but bring special pieces that you collect- bark, etc. Use your imagination and feel free to wear a costume.

FANTASY FAIRY FLIES - CORRECTED TIME
Create sparkly Fairy Flies, that look a lot like dragonflies, out of natural materials. They will be embellished with pearl and metallic paints. Background surfaces will be stenciled and stamped, so you will learn several art techniques. Materials included. Wear an old T-shirt or bring an apron.
SUNDAY, Oct. 22, 2 to 3:30 pm. SAA’s Ellis House, 709 Country Way.
