"Why I shouldnt walk and run beside you today. Because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits. So I walk and run beside you, standing still if I have to. All while I feel my paws burning. Even as little as 5 minutes can be fatal to me and to my paws. My whole body starts boiling, but Iโll keep going because I am as loyal as loyal comes. I depend on you to know whatโs in my best interest. So instead, let me stay at home where I can enjoy the sun, with a large bowl of water, somewhere in the shade. A cool area with grass would be best. With all the love I have in the whole world - I give it all to you.
- Love your dog ๐ฉท๐พ "

It's getting to be that time of year again! Tis the season for fireworks and HOT weather! Though you may want your dog to be out and enjoying the fun with you, here are a few things to keep in mind.
1. ๐๐ป If it's hot out touch the pavement, if its too hot for your hand, its too hot for their feet!๐พ Do not take your dog out walking during the heat of the day. Take them out super early or super late.
2. ๐ซ DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE CAR even for "just a minute" ๐ซ Cars in the summer are one of the most dangerous places for dogs, it takes less than 2 minutes for your car to heat up to dangerous temperatures. ๐
3. It's HOT๐ฅ- the beach and other public gathering places are not as enjoyable for our furry friends. ๐ Loud noises and crowds can be overwhelming. But most importantly in the summertime, the beach in particular is WAY TOO HOT FOR DOGS! ๐ฅ A dogs normal body temperature is about 102๐ก- so its super easy for them to overheat. Your dog may want to drink water but not realize that drinking salt water can actually make them sick. Leave 'em at home in the AC with a licki mat, kong or other delicious frozen treat.๐ฆ
4. Fireworks are NOT FUN FOR DOGS!๐ซ Fireworks are terrifying and disorienting for dogs. Even if your dog is perfectly polite offleash, if you must have them out, keep them on a leash (there's a leash law anyway and not all dogs want to be accosted by other dogs) for safety. The loud bangs and bright flashes will cause even the most confident of canines to bolt. ๐โ๐ฆบ
5. To drown out the noise of Fireworks, keep the AC, TV or radio on and use fans as extra background white noise. ๐บ๐ง๐ป
6. If your dog needs medication (that you should have called in WAY before the week before the 4th) make sure to give it well before the Fireworks start! ๐
7. If you've got a crate use it! Your dog will be safe and feel secure while enjoying a frozen treat. ๐ ๐๐๐พ
We're going to meet this boy tomorrow and introduce him to some new friends! He might be staying with us for a few days so if you'd like to meet him and possibly foster or adopt him, reach out!
Foster Needed!
Buddy is an adorable almost two year old pittie boy who needs a helping hand. His current owner's landlord has changed their mind about having the breed at their property and he must be rehomed. The owner is devastated and we know that on top of all of that, he is going to be difficult to find a foster or adopter for because of his breed. What he has going for him is that he is awesome all around and the best boy! Is there anyone out there that would be willing to foster him while he awaits an adopter? He is house trained and good with other dogs :)
A local family had a house fire on Memorial Day here in town, they lost everything. As they look to rebuild their home and their lives, we are hoping to help as a community! We are accepting donations here at MAH!

Our Story
A long time ago, a pit bull stole my heart. Years later I was working in an animal hospital and the local ACO brought in a pit bull type dog. His name was Rusty and after being locked in a house alone, for a month, he had broken through a window in an effort to save his own life. Unfortunately we were unable to save him, heartbroken and angry I swore that I would do everything in my power to make sure that would never happen to another dog again. Thus began my foray into rescue. Fast forward several more years.. We had become familiar with a few rescues and had taken on several fosters. Then one day, a local kid asked if we could take his dog because he just didnโt know what he was getting into when he got the dog and no longer had the time or means to take care of him. Sure, whatโs one more? Enter โZarekโ or โZโ for short, a deep red roan pit with ridiculously over sized ears. Shortly after โZโ came home, I realized that he had some serious behavioral issues and that we couldnโt really ever adopt him out. As far as training, I really had no idea what I was doing so I started to read, A LOT. The more I read, the more I learned that the issue that most of these dogs had was not because of their breed, but because of a certain lack of training. In fact, most of the dogs that we ended up taking on, had some pretty serious issues that could have been avoided had they received proper training in the first place!
My roots will forever lie in rescue, I still help when and where I can but my passion, dare I say obsession, is training. I studied and received my CDT from Penn Foster, I am an AKC Certified CGC Evaluator and AKC Certified Trick Dog Instructor. I opened Recurve K9 Training and Behavior Modification in hopes that I could help keep dogs from ever going into the shelter. Bully breeds in general, hold a special place in my heart but I do work with dogs of every breed, size and age. My goal as a trainer is to help improve communication between dogs and their humans to ensure a long and happy relationship.
