Gardening tip:

The rest of the country is freezing but we still have the sunshine in AZ ☀️

January is somewhat of a slow month in the garden but there are still plenty of things you can grow right now.
But I’m still harvesting many vegetables from my fall planting and waiting on some plants to still mature (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and brussels sprouts).

Of all the above vegetables there are some that can be both direct-seeded and transplanted. But since zone 9b has such a long growing season you don’t have to be as concerned about starting all your vegetables early indoors.

Although, some vegetables will grow best if they are planted directly by seed in the garden.

Zone 9 has a long growing season with hot summers. Most vegetable varieties will have no problem maturing before your first frost date! With a last frost date of March 1st and a first date of December 15th, the annual minimum temperature for Zone 9 is 25 ̊F.
*These dates will vary a week or two, so it is important to watch the weather before planting.
Using the planting schedule below will help you get the most of your garden. Starting seeds indoors before your ast frost date will give you a jump start on the growing season. Knowing when to transplant seedlings out- doors will help to maximize your harvest
