Happy Anniversary, Bishop Bambera!

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8

Your Cathedral remembers with joy and great thanks to God this date twelve years ago when Monsignor Joseph C. Bambera was ordained a bishop and installed as the tenth bishop of the Diocese of Scranton. It was a rainy and cloudy day outside but the warmth and love radiating from the cathedral church more than made up for the lacking weather.

During his first address as our new bishop, he spoke of the faith instilled in him by his parents: "My mother and father taught us by their example powerful lessons of faith and hope peppered with healthy doses of common sense. As parents go, I could not ask for more."

Upon concluding he stated: "What a treasure we have all been given in order to do the work of Jesus and proclaim His Gospel message. Together, may we work generously to give that treasure away and so continue to build up the church, the body of Christ in our midst. God bless you."

The Cathedral, her resident priests and staff, and her parishioners thank you for your presence among us, your ardent example of servant leadership, and, most especially, your kind words and affable nature.

May God continue to bless and strengthen you in mind, body, and spirit as you lead us with unceasing zeal on our earthly journey!

An Anniversary Prayer for Bishop Bambera

O God, our loving Father, send forth your Holy Spirit into the heart of our Bishop Joseph, who on this day celebrates the twelfth anniversary of his episcopal ordination, whom you have called to share in the ministerial priesthood of Jesus Christ. Increase in him the pastoral zeal of the Good Shepherd so that he may respond with compassion to all those who need his care.

May Mary, the Holy Mother of God, the Mother of priests, Saint Joseph her spouse, and Saint John Vianney, the patron of priests, guide him safely on all his spiritual and pastoral journeys in this life, ever closer to Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, that he may finally and fully be united with Him, and with all the angels and saints, for all eternity, in heaven.

Amen.

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday with us. It was wonderful to have a service with every pew filled, and on such a gorgeous day. A HUGE thank you to Deacon Carm, Father Sam, Father Sibiliano, the visiting clergy who lovingly came to help with confessions and the mass, and everyone else behind the scenes, that made it all happen, from setup to clean up. We are all truly blessed to have such an event held in our area. Many blessings from all of us at St. Lucy's Parish.
