Betsy Nickless, FSDA, is the 2024 STAR Award winner for the SDA Orange County chapter.

Betsy is our chapter’s Treasurer and we value her monthly detailed treasurer reports and overseeing of the chapter funds. She also took lead on the Sponsorship Committee this past year by sending out invoices which helped retain all our current sponsors and adding one new sponsor in 2023. Betsy also supports the chapter by having a great relationship with the AIAOC headquarters, which has helped us increase awareness of SDA to its members in the Orange County area. The AIAOC has invited us to participate at their networking events with a ‘free’ vendor table where we distributed SDA membership packets.

Betsy also attends all SDA/OC board meetings, lunch seminars, and networking and social events. She’s just not an attendee, she is our ‘go-to-girl’ for all that is SDA!

We know from her contributions that Betsy Nickless was the best candidate from the Orange County chapter to receive this year’s STAR Award a the SDA National Convention held in Colorado Springs, CO.

Last nights Trivia Night event and Membership Drive to celebrate Administrative Professionals Day was a blast!
It all started with an incredible tour of the Brilliant AV Experience Center Showroom. Then we traveled through a speakeasy door to get to our party room where we enjoyed networking, food, and drinks. And then of course breaking into teams and playing trivia games. A big thank you to Jeff Manzer for hosting trivia night!!! You rock!
The night ended with door prize drawings… and everyone leaving in a happy mood.
And the best part is we had three potential members attend who we look forward to becoming SDA members!
NOTE: all photos were taken pre-party. After that the good times rollled without thought of cell phones.

SDA/OC SEPTEMBER 2023 WEBINAR
Listen to your Listening: Overcome your Hurdles and Invisible Headphones to Transform Work Culture and Relationships

Thursday, September 21, 2023
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM PDT

Have you ever found yourself listening to someone, then realize you are no longer listening and have totally zoned out or entered a rabbit hole of daydreams? It happens to everyone. Quality communication arises from how you interact with others, and too much emphasis is often placed on language to do the hard work of communication. Let's face it, words can fail and there is a better way to connect. You have 2 ears and 1 mouth. . . let's start using them in proportion! In this interactive session, you'll learn:

• How to hold yourself present in any conversation and navigate challenging conversations
• "The Hurdles to Listening" everyone faces and how to maneuver them and communicate better.
• The game-changing difference between "sloppy" listening and "clean and curious" listening.
• How to ask questions that open you and others up to see things differently.
• To grow a team that is more productive, innovative, and collaborative by listening differently.
