Dolly makeovers!

Today we remember American dollmaker Beatrice Alexander, also known as Madame Alexander. Growing up, Beatrice's parents ran a doll repair shop, where she and her sisters learned to make dolls. During World War I, they made Red Cross Nurse dolls out of rags. In 1923, Beatrice started the Madame Alexander Doll Company in New York City. In the 1930s, she became the first to make licensed characters from literature and movies into dolls. The first of these dolls were from Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, and Gone with the Wind— she is perhaps most well-known for her Scarlett O'Hara doll. The company is still in operation today.
