i used to think exercise wasn’t “productive” if i wasn’t left feeling like i “pushed myself to my limits”. definitely something that stuck with me after being an athlete for most of my life😅

but, i slowly realized this made me loathe exercise. or, at the very least, felt like a chore.

so much of social media is “do this, not that”. what if we changed the narrative to: “do what fills YOUR cup and looks/ feels healthy (physically, mentally, socially, financially, etc) to YOU”.

my dog walks have been such a great form of movement for me during this season. hanging with dogs, enjoying the weather, light walking, and sometimes listening to a fun podcast.

what form of movement have you been enjoying? let me know in the comments!☀️

Is sugar addictive? 05/17/2023

Is sugar addictive? How many times have you heard this idea? Where did “sugar is as addictive as drugs” come from? How do I stop binging on sugar? We’ll chat about all of this today.
In preparation for this blog post today I’ve read dozens of research articles and compared different internet articles from popular press. The idea that sugar is addictive is a popular one, as a quick internet search with prove. But, what’s it based on?? In my best news anchor voice, *stay tuned as the results may shock you*.

If you struggle with food guilt, you’re not alone! It can feel so difficult and frustrating. Here are 3 actionable tips I use with my clients to help you overcome those negative thoughts and enjoy your meals without guilt:

1️⃣ Avoid labeling foods as “forbidden” or “off-limits.” This can lead to feelings of deprivation and make you more likely to eat past a comfortable level of fullness later on. Instead, allow yourself have the foods you want and enjoy.

2️⃣ Practice self-compassion. If you do have a “slip-up” , it’s okay. There is no “right” or “wrong” way of eating. Treat yourself with kindness and remember that one meal or snack doesn’t define your overall health.

3️⃣ Seek support from loved ones or a professional. Talking to a friend, dietitian, or therapist can help you process your emotions and develop a healthier mindset around food.

Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to overcoming food guilt. Be patient with yourself and focus on small, sustainable changes that work for you.

With time and practice, you can develop a positive relationship with food and enjoy your meals without guilt or shame. ❤️‍🩹

a bagel can be a source of carbs, made as a sandwich, just cream cheese, plain or fun flavors, and eaten at any time of the day. it may be a fear food, off limits, or full of guilt.

or it can be just a bagel.

placing moral values on food, such as “good or bad”, translates those feelings towards ourselves.

food neutrality helps us view food all on the same level. some foods are more nutritious than others, while some are more enjoyable. it’s okay to include both in your day. it’s okay if you mainly choose enjoyable foods.

DM me “neutrality” if you are ready to enjoy food without second guessing if it’s “good” or “right”.

TESTIMONIALS
"Working with Abbey completely transformed my body image! I was so nervous to start and, honestly, wasn't sure if it was the right fit for me. After our first 2 sessions, I already felt changes! TESTIMONIALS:
"During our sessions, Abbey eliminated all of my fears. I always wanted to quit dieting, but had no idea where or how to start. Abbey not only taught me so much about food and body image, but about myself too. She constantly believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. Each session led me to a life of more compassion towards myself - and it is SO freeing. I would recommend Abbey to anyone looking to stop dieting forever!"

Welcome to food freedom.

I help individuals struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating reclaim food freedom and body trust so that they may be fully engaged in their life and ditch dieting forever.

Unlike restrictive diets, I use a trauma-informed and HAES approach to center my clients’ experiences. I help them understand the root of their behaviors so that their relationship with food and body image no longer negatively impacts their daily life.
