“Love J. Henry” is two years in the making. It is an exploration of love - with another and with oneself. It was written and produced to be a short film or play - to be experienced, not just listened to.

“I’m going to get my masters.”

It was 1am on a spring night during my senior year at the University of Washington. My friends and I stopped at Burger Hut for the traditional late night meal after drinking way too much (glad those days are behind me 😂).

While they enjoyed their spicy chicken sandwich, I stepped outside to call my dad.

He didn’t answer (obviously).

“I’m going to get my masters” I said in my voicemail. That was it. A declaration or maybe just a drunken moment. Either way, he never really acknowledged it.

Several months later he watched his middle son walk across the stage at, then, CenturyLink field to receive his bachelors in psychology. The first of his children to do so. It was an emotional moment for everyone.

In a lot of ways, I pursued a lot of my goals to make my family proud, especially my father. A way to respect the sacrifices made. But also a way to say “even with all the turbulence, this plane is flying high.”

Calling him that night to vocalize this new goal of further education was part of that same ambitious energy. Though I, fortunately, took some time to pursue it.

On May 4, 2024, I’ll be receiving a masters in computational analytics from Georgia Tech. 🎉 After 2+ years of late nights, missed weekends, and yelling at my code (check your commas people) - we made it!

Unfortunately, he won’t be able to watch me from the stands this time as he passed away from cancer in 2020. But before he left, he made sure to let me know that his pride for me is eternal. And really - I’m damn proud of myself as well.

I dreamt of creating an album since I was 15 years old. I always had ideas but never completed them for one reason or another. I’m proud to say that is finally becoming a reality on 6/21.

The album preview party was a great success. Thanks to everyone who showed up and showed love. I made it for myself but it means the world to share it with others and build connections. 🫶🏼🙏🏼
