3 of our NW junior members joined other PNKF Juniors to compete in AUSKF Jr National Open in Huntington Beach, CA this weekend.
Shin Nakayama (Camas) won Kantoushou in individual 9 and under division.
Nathan Kim (NW) won 3rd in individual 10-11 yo division.
Saiichi Johnson (Seattle) won 3rd in individual 12-13 yo division.
In team competition, Takumi Tanimura (Edmonds), Hiro Johnson (Seattle), and Nathan Kim (NW) placed 2nd in Youth division.
We had few Jrs making their first trip to a national competition, and everyone performed great! More than winning or losing, what's important is doing your best and learning something new to improve upon, and making new friends! We are all proud of you!

3 of our juniors participated in Bellevue Jr Taikai.
Nathan Kim placed 2nd place in 11-12 division.
Clara Kim placed 1st in girl's division.
Northwest Jr Team (Shin Nakayama, Nathan Kim, Clara Kim, Ryu Yokoo, and Lucas Chen) placed 1st.

Our member Jonathan Yu is currently representing USA Jr National Team in Japan going against some of their best Jr Kendo practitioners.
In first two rounds, Jonathan (senpo) won against 10 players, singlehandedly beating the two teams by himself! (The team format is such that the winner stays and fights next opponent until he loses.)
On to the 3rd round~ Good luck Jonathan and Team USA!

Two of our members participated in the 44th Highline Challenge Cup Kendo Tournament, a taikai open to adult kyu kenshi's.
Charles Dolera placed 4th overall.
Congratulations Charles and Michael for doing awesome job!
Deadline to sign up for Highline Taikai is only a week away!
It's a great local taikai for adults who are in kyu levels. The taikai is on Saturday March 23rd, and there will be a seminar on Sunday March 24th.
To sign up for the taikai please let Dr. Yu or Matt know (if you are a NWKC member).

We had our Inaugural Northwest Junior Taikai today.
With help from the entire PNKF community, we are proud to say that the event went better than we had hoped!
Thank you to all the shinpans and volunteers, moms and dads, and of course our awesome juniors who showed true spirits of kendo. There were plenty of angst and some tears, but lot more of hugs, smiles, and laughter~!
Congratulations to the entire PNKF Juniors, especially to our "Future Kendo Spirit Award" winners.
