The Free Tax Team is thankful to be able to resume our partnership with Kent Public Health Center to provide tax services in 2023, after several years of closure due to the pandemic. Kent, like many neighborhoods in South King County, has been a hub for our tax services for many years, as more and more people are moving south in the wake of rising costs in more central Seattle.
We're anticipating another busy year at our tax site in Kent, with many local folks in need of tax assistance. Are you interested in volunteering? You could--
Become an intake volunteer, to greet folks as they come into the tax site. This is a great position of you enjoy chatting with people, and it doesn't involve tax prep! https://volunteer.uwkc.org/need/detail/?need_id=737755

We are adding a new tax site to our roster next year in Rainier Beach, at the Rainier Beach Community Center on Sundays! RBCC has been a strong partner of the Campaign for many years, and we are pleased to partner with them again to offer free tax prep.
Are you interested in volunteering in Rainier Beach? Please check out the links below to sign up for a shift! Volunteer shifts at Rainier Beach will be for three hours, once a week.

As we approach the end of the year, the holidays are a good time to take some time to reflect and think about the coming new year.
2022 has been a year of growth and learning for the Tax Campaign: after a couple years of reduced, online-only services due to COVID-19, we returned to a more robust service model in January of this year, serving over 7000 community members with free tax assistance across 12 sites and our virtual tax platform. This was accomplished through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, site managers, and internal program staff, and through generous support from the IRS and the City of Seattle. We are truly grateful to everyone whose collective effort has helped to revitalize the program, and who held strong spirits of service in the wake of the pandemic. Tax season can be a confusing and stressful part of the year for many folks in our community, and many would likely have chosen not to file or paid to file their return without this program. Our volunteers ensure thousands of dollars in refunds and tax credits are deposited directly into the pockets of our friends and neighbors in King County-- money for food, clothes, housing, toys, car maintenance, vet bills, and everything else. These refunds add up to millions of dollars that our volunteers return to local communities each year.
We plan to keep growing in 2023. We've added several tax sites across King County and will continue to offer virtual tax assistance. Next year will be an important year for Washingtonians, as the Working Families Tax Credit will be rolling out to bring direct cash payments of up to $1,200 to low-income families and individuals. United Way of King County is committed to helping as many community members as possible receive this credit, along with their refunds.
We are still actively recruiting volunteers for next season. Will you join us?

Looking to make an impact in your community? United Way’s Free Tax Preparation Campaign is one of the largest IRS-funded VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) programs in the state, and we'd love you to join us!
Since its inception in 2003, the Free Tax Prep Campaign has served more than 150,000 clients and distributed more than $200 million in refunds, of which $62 million was in Earned Income Tax Credits and $70 million was in Child Tax Credits. This year, we expect to operate over a dozen tax sites across King County and bring additional millions in tax credits and refunds back into the pockets of those who need them most. This 2023 tax season will also be an important year, as the Working Family's Tax Credit (https://workingfamiliescredit.wa.gov/) is set to launch, and United Way is committed to helping as many people as possible receive the credit.
Would you please consider this important tax and community service opportunity and share it with your friends and colleagues? For more information about the Campaign and to sign up, please visit our website, https://uwkc.org/taxvolunteer.
