Seattle/King County Clinic - Seattle Center Foundation 02/14/2024

Greetings!

Here's an update from the Seattle King County Clinic (SKC) which is happening next week!

I done been signed up as a volunteer. If you want to volunteer, please do check to see if volunteers are still needed and sign up. It is such a rewarding volunteer gig and they do feed us and and treat us all very well. Also, if you need/want any of the services provided, now is the time to put it on your schedule. Please keep in mind that you will need to plan on being there all day. It really is worth your time.

See you there and ta ta...for now.

Yvette

Hello Seattle/King County Clinic Stakeholders,

Happy New Year! We are days away from the Clinic (Feb. 15 – 18, 2024) and the flood gates of activity have opened. This week we have our first event of the year underway. Volunteers are busy inventorying supplies, organizing them by service, and on pallets to make loading into the facilities as efficient as possible. Patient outreach efforts have begun in earnest in addition to continued volunteer recruitment. In a less than a week 150+ leadership team members will come together for orientation and from there the countdown to the Clinic will be in full swing.

DID YOU KNOW?

When people initially hear about the Clinic, they often have misconceptions about the patients who seek services. It’s understandable, based on individual backgrounds and experiences, or what wear hear from the media, we all have preconceived ideas that come to mind when we hear ‘people in need.’ In 2023, we learned from patients:

• 96% were housed

• 34% were unemployed

• 60% said their primary reason for attending was they couldn’t afford healthcare costs

• 52% didn’t have health insurance

• 22% with insurance still couldn’t access the services they needed

Those with Clinic experience help to provide additional perspective. As one volunteer described, “I was truly surprised to see that people seeking services were just like me, my family, my co-workers, and neighbors. That was the biggest realization for me; folks who desperately need these services aren’t ‘them,’ they’re ‘us.’” As we see insurance premiums increase, public health funding threatened, and costs of living soar, we expect more people to face barriers accessing affordable healthcare.

PATIENT OUTREACH

At this point, patient outreach takes center stage. Community based organizations and volunteers are helping to distribute flyers, ads are placed in ethnic, community, as well as social media, and interviews are scheduled on television and radio. We have many ways of letting people know about this healthcare opportunity, but additional assistance is welcomed. Flyers in multiple languages, social media graphics, and FAQs can be found at seattlecenter.org/patients.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS (Downloadable PNG or PDF)

Hopefully by now you know our shorthand, # volunteers = # patients. We still need volunteers, especially on Thursday. The next greatest need is on Sunday. Please look at the specific areas where we have openings and help us to recruit people to fill the gaps. seattlecenter.org/volunteers

📷

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

The many efforts and contributions to design, produce, and operate this project are about to coalesce. The way the Clinic succeeds is through collective investment from the community. As shared by one patient, “I cannot express how much your kindness and support have meant to me during a difficult time in my life. Your unwavering commitment to helping those in need is truly inspiring and has had a profound impact on our lives. Your dedication to serving the community and making a positive difference in people’s lives is a gift that cannot be measured.” A heartfelt thank you to our partners, donors, volunteers, and everyone who has collaborated to bring Seattle/King County Clinic to fruition.

Wishing you and our community a healthy 2024!

King County Housing Authority > Find a Home 12/05/2023

Dear Community,

I received this email regarding King County Housing Authority Waitlist Status.

We are writing to inform you that with more than 22,000 households waiting as of November 1, 2023, King County Housing Authority has decided to temporarily close its waiting list for subsidized housing (i.e. public housing and other site-based programs) on December 15, 2023.

While it’s common practice among housing authorities to routinely open and close waiting lists, KCHA has historically kept our waiting list open-ended. With an average wait time currently exceeding five years, we will now suspend the list.

KCHA plans to use this period of temporary closure to transition to a new software system. Among other anticipated improvements, a new online application will streamline the application process. We do plan to reopen the waiting list once the software conversion and restructuring are complete. Although our region’s housing needs will continue to exceed capacity, KCHA’s waiting list for Section 8 voucher-supported housing is also closed until further notice.

We are not an emergency-housing resource, but we do continue to offer a variety of rental housing and rental assistance. Options such as Other Rental Housing and Moderate-Income Housing remain available to those who qualify. Please direct people in need of non-emergency services to kcha.org/housing to estimate their housing eligibility and explore other possible options.

Information about the list closure is now posted on KCHA.org and will be disseminated in other forums today and over the next few weeks. Please feel free to contact me or our Central Applications Center ([email protected] and 206-574-1248) with questions.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and for all you do for our neighbors in need.

King County Housing Authority > Find a Home Please note the waiting list for subsidized housing (i.e. public housing and other site-based programs), which had an average wait time of more than five years as of Nov. 1, 2023, will be suspended starting Dec. 15, 2023, while KCHA reviews and refines its policies and procedures related to the wait...

Weather Cooling Center

The City will be hosting a cooling center for community members experiencing homelessness. The cooling center will be in Seattle City Hall’s lower level on Fourth Avenue, behind the Red Room. This service will allow unsheltered residents to spend the day in a cool, safe, and air-conditioned space while the extreme summer temperatures pass over our region. This cooling center will be open from Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, through Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. each day. Please note, end date is weather dependent and may be adjusted.

Take the Pike Place Market Visitor Survey!
Note: This is an unpaid activity.

Pike Place Market PDA is developing a Master Plan. The goal of the Master Plan is to understand the current perceptions of the Market and identify ways to encourage more local visitors and discover what frequent visitors want to see in the future. An essential part of that process is hearing from visitors, shoppers, and advocates! Be a part of history and take the survey! The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. Feel free to share with your community as well!
See survey link below in the following languages, and an outreach toolkit is attached.
