Hello, we are James and Ashley! Fifteen years ago we ventured into the design build word because of our commitment to quality, innovation, sustainability and client focused creative collaboration. Our practice continues to evolve, but our motivation and ethos remain rooted. We're continually thrilled to be able to work with clients from early vision through each design and build phase. Our holistic process is about custom high quality environmentally conscious projects that make our clients lives better and more expansive. We absolutely love what we do! ⁣

The yakisugi rain screen detail on our Columbia City project has both the look and function on point. makes a beautiful product rooted in ancient knowledge and longevity. We believe that's what's up. ⁣

For this great room remodel we utilized our 3D modeling to help the homeowners envision lighting options. This level of detail empowers the homeowners to make informed decisions prior to construction.

The black pendants won out unanimously!

Whatcha know about oxalic acid?!?! These exposed wood trusses arrived with some yucky rusted metal stains. Beth found a few finish options, tried 'em out and the results are spectacular! All evidence of rust is gonzo and they’re looking sparkly clean. Small moments of care make all the difference!

The constraints of this small family bathroom required that a choice be made between a generous shower or generous vanity. Swipe to see both concepts. Privacy for the loo and lots of storage were touchstones in both approaches. We loved pulling inspiration from the client’s to die for furniture collection. Thanks to and for trusting the process and being so fun to work with. Let's do the basement next 😉💕✨

During framing on Beacon Hill the building takes shape from day to day. Rays of light cast shadows across the unfinished concrete & wood surfaces. The juxtaposition of light & shadow is augmented by the stirring clouds and lines of sight to Lake Washington & the Cascade mountains beyond.

Before framing our Beacon Hill project, an exact framing model was developed by .chris.payne at . This tool allowed the team to digitally build the house in order to plan for efficiencies, problem solve issues, and fine tune details prior to the physical construction.

A dynamic rendering with a focus on a few key interior details is a powerful tool for all stakeholders. This render illustrates how material, views, light, nature, and space intermingle in a calm yet playful way, and provided elevated visioning during intense earthwork and foundation scopes at our Beacon Hill High Performance.

Creativity was flowing on our Beacon Hill job site this week, inspired by Seattle summer views to the Cascade Mountains. James, Robert & Lucas are pictured here strategizing framing details for construction. When inspiration strikes anything can be used as a sketch pad, including a pile of lumber!

During the process of design, it is helpful to orient decision making towards project specific balancing of cost, timing, and scope. We advise that clients prioritize up to two of these factors as touchstones for decision making. The overlap of these priorities allow us to identify the driving values of a project.
It is also possible for these priorities to shift as the realities of the project are revealed. After all, design is a creative process!

Our office is closed today in recognition of the Junteenth holiday. A little history for you: although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, the last enslaved Black Americans weren't actually freed until June 19th, 1865. Also known as Jubilee Day, this holiday symbolizes liberty and justice for all Americans. Today we acknowledge those who suffered, fought, advocated and otherwise supported our friends of color throughout the generations. We see you, we care for you, and we stand with you.

A big shout out today to all the dads putting in endless love and support, and especially our NEST db founding dads, David and James Coats. They both have approached fatherhood with equal parts softness and determination, and for that we are so very grateful. Our daily work is inspired by their legacy of deep care and thoughtful balance.
