SHARE if you agree Congress should pass U.S. Senator Patty Murray’s & Rep Derek Kilmer’s Act to protect ancient forests & salmon streams for our future before time runs out this year! Let’s get it done in 2024 Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Senator Maria Cantwell! (Photo Credit: John Gussman)
Fishing buoy entangled in a kelp bed on Freshwater Bay near Port Angeles. I was able to remove the buoy but not the rope which was attached or entangled far below. Another crab buoy was too difficult to remove.
Exploring the Strait of Juan de Fuca coastline.
Spawned out Chinook salmon along the Elwha River above the former lower dam site. We’ve met folks in Port Angeles who don’t believe salmon are coming above the removed dam sites.
With family in town this weekend I got a chance to see the sights in Seattle. Here’s a few alternative views in Seattle Center. Space Needle line was too long but we made it to some of the classics - Ivars Salmon House, the market, Seattle Center and two trolls. 👿
A surprise at 2am last night west of Port Angeles. It clouded up 45min later. Glad we’re night owls, I’d probably sleep 💤 in if this was a morning thing.
Fried egg jelly in Freshwater Bay this afternoon.
A few ferry perspectives on the Edmonds-Kingston run yesterday.
Returning Coho salmon in the Ballard Locks yesterday. And the guy with the coolest job - salmon counter.
Kayak camping on Cypress Island. warms himself by the fire overlooking Bellingham Channel.
Edmonds Kingston ferry in comparison to cruise ship which had right of way. Middle of Puget Sound north of Seattle. Unfortunately the cruise ship 🚢 waves don’t hit our spots in Seattle. They slow down too far out coming in and don’t hit cruising speed until further out. 🌊
Pocket beach along what I call the cliff section of Freshwater Bay near Port Angeles. Trip 46 in my book Paddling the Salish Sea 80 Trips.
Ferry chair study.
Sea stack on Crescent Bay, Salt Creek Rec Area, WA.
A collection of recent cocktails from Bakers in Seattle, Fathom in Victoria and Joey in the Shipyards of North Vancouver. .seattle .victoria
Starboard channel marker in False Creek, Vancouver BC.
The USS Turner Joy in downtown Bremerton, Wa.
Paddler near the Freshwater Bay boat ramp west of Port Angeles. The image appears in my updated book “Paddling the Salish Sea 80 Trips” from
Junuary paddle on Hood Canal yesterday in Washington State.
.swims and in the Gorge or Tilikum Narrows in Victoria BC last summer. This is in my book and is a tidal rapid that’s best on the ebb. Check with Lee at for details.
View of Widgeon Creek and Coquitlam Mountain in North Vancouver during my book update last summer.
Something a little different. Old Fashioned at Press in Spokane, Wa.
Seattle skyline reflected in Puget Sound ferry window.
Tires along our beaches are an unfortunate common sight. Tires emit 6PP-D quinone, a chemical that affects marine life. And tires are difficult to remove given their size and weight. This one is a mile from the road above a rocky beach with waves. There’s 2 I want to remove on Shilshole Bay in Seattle but no org or agency is interested. It’s on us - looking for a boat that can get in shallow. Then figuring out who recycles tires. 🛞
