The domestic pigeon is a pigeon subspecies that was derived from the rock dove or rock pigeon. The rock pigeon is the world's oldest domesticated bird. Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets mention the domestication of pigeons more than 5,000 years ago, as do Egyptian hieroglyphics. Pigeons were most likely domesticated in the Mediterranean at least 2000–5000 years ago, and may have been domesticated earlier as a food source. Research suggests that domestication of pigeons occurred as early as 10,000 years ago.

Henry D. Perky forever changed the face of breakfast when he received a patent for shredded wheat in 1893.

The Ohio-born Perky — later a resident of Denver via Nebraska — first devised shredded wheat in 1892, according to the shredded wheat fan site that goes by the name, "I love shredded wheat."

The hippogriff or hippogryph is a legendary creature with the front half of an eagle and the hind half of a horse.

It was invented at the beginning of the 16th century by Ludovico Ariosto in his Orlando Furioso. Within the poem, the hippogriff is a steed born of a mare and a griffin—something considered impossible.[1] It is extremely fast and is presented as being able to fly around the world and to the Moon. It is ridden by magicians and the wandering knight Ruggiero, who, from the creature's back, frees the beautiful Angelica. Astolfo also borrows the hippogriff from Bradamante to go search for Roland's wits.

Beer is not for the birds 🐦

Birders in many parts of southern Canada and the northern U.S. were fortunate this past winter to have been blessed with large numbers one of my favorite Boreal birds, a species that is lovingly called the Grizzly Bear Bird.

They aren’t called that because of their demeanor--they are generally among the more demure of bids—or because of their diet as they generally focus on berries rather than meat. Grizzly Bear Birds are also not massively large and do not have larger than normal claws.

The current distribution of the Grizzly Bear. Both are now found largely in the western Boreal from Alaska to northern Manitoba, though Grizzly Bears once roamed over at least half of the U.S. and Bohemian Waxwings have been found nesting as far east as northwestern Ontario and are suspected to now nest in northern Quebec.

The rustic bunting (Emberiza rustica) is a passerinebird in the bunting family Emberizidae, a group now separated by most modern authors from the finches, Fringillidae. The genus name Emberiza is from Old German Embritz, a bunting. The specific rustica is Latinfor "rustic, simple"

The copper pheasant also known as Soemmerring's pheasant or yamadori is a pheasant endemic to the Japanese archipelago. The scientific name commemorates the German scientist Samuel Thomas von Sömmerring. It is the official bird of multiple Japanese prefectures, cities, and towns. It was commonly hunted for sport throughout the 20th century.

Its populations has been in consistent decline since the 1970's due to factors including habitat destruction and predation, but the most widely cited cause is overhunting.

The ivory gull (Pagophila eburnea) is a small gull, the only species in the genus Pagophila. It breeds in the high Arctic and has a circumpolar distribution through Greenland, northernmost North America, and Eurasia.

The razorbill is a North Atlantic colonial seabird and the only extant member of the genus Alca of the family Alcidae, the auks. It is the closest living relative of the extinct great auk (Pinguinus impennis).
