Not every tongue-tie needs a revision, especially if Myofunctional Therapy is an option. It is very possible to “stretch” a tongue-tie, through a series of myofunctional exercises. This increases the mobility and tone of the tongue, so it can learn to live in its proper position: high-up against the palate.

Try these simple myofunctional exercises at home: “tip-to-teeth” & “cave” and hold each of them for 1 min per day. (It might take some time to hold for the full minute.)

Proper placement of the tongue leads to life-long benefits, including adequate jaw development, improved airway health, increased oxygenation, easier nasal breathing and so much more.

This is yet another way to give your oral health the attention it deserves! 👍

Is it possible to heal cavities? Yes, and especially if the spots are incipient lesions confined to the enamel only. It takes some dilligence with re-mineralization techniques, but we have seen it happen.

We are a family, holistic Dental Clinic and Wellness Center located in Shoreview, MN. We are passionate about biocompatible dental care, and utilize non-toxic products in our dental procedures. Additionally… we ask the “why.” Why do some patients struggle with decay? Why does gum recession occur for certain individuals and not others? Why do TMJ and teeth grinding happen? At our office, we are so honored to be able to offer General Anesthesia Sedation for our patients.

Sometimes, both pediatric and adult patients need a little extra support in completing dental work, especially if there’s extensive treatment that needs to get done, or surgical procedures that might cause anxiety. We partner with Twin Anesthesia, which is a local, mobile team of medical anesthesiologists that bring their state-of-the-art anesthesia equipment right to our dental office. Their professionalism and gentle quality-of-care is exceptional!

Our patients are very grateful to receive these services in a non-hospital setting, and also receive excellent dental care with our non-toxic dental materials that we use. It is so important to minimize dental trauma, especially with children, and set them up for a lifetime of healthy dental experiences.

We are very excited to welcome Craniosacral & Fascial Therapist Mindy Schmidt to our office!

Mindy’s experience with holistic medical practices began from her battle with daily chronic pain due to an auto-immune disorder. As she searched for alternative health options, she experienced the benefits of craniosacral fascial therapy which is a walking testimony of the powers we have in our bodies that can bring healing. In 2015, when her son was born with a cleft lip and palate, her desire for knowledge in the holistic medical space intensified. She was being called from being a patient to becoming a practitioner, and it is now her goal to translate her experience and education into a practice where she can help others live pain-free, healthy lives.

Mindy has studied many alternative holistic care therapies including Craniosacral, Cranio Fascial, and Myofascial Release, as well as having education as a Naturopath. She is certified in the Gillespie Craniosacral Fascial Therapy, which is a gentle approach incorporating dental components. When not aiding people in healing, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, reading, cooking, caring for her body, gardening, researching new therapies, and volunteering at her church and in the community.

When Good Teeth Go Bad | Natural Awakenings Twin Cities Biological Dentist and Naturopath Dr. Holly Thompson of Natural Smiles Dental Care shares symptoms and solutions for your best smile.

Many of our patients ask us what a root canal procedure is like. This involves stripping out the inner nerves and blood supply to the tooth, essentially leaving a “dead tooth” in place. This root canaled tooth can then cause chronic infection, that is oftentimes only visible on 3D imagery called a CT scan. Chronic jawbone infections can lead to health issues, as the body’s immune system is constantly being drained.

At our office we recommend CBCT scans to check existing root canals, and then give patients treatment options. Many of our patients choose to extract these infected teeth, and we utilize ozone, laser, PRF (platelet rich fibrin) therapy, and customized homeopathy to assist with healing.

Our implant dentist Dr. Holly Thompson then discusses with our patients if zirconia implants are an option, and what the treatment sequence for this would be.

Our office is excited to welcome Cara Meyer, who is joining us on Mondays to provide Dynamical Neurofeedback services! This is in addition to Elizabeth, who is currently offering neurofeedback services on Wednesdays.

Cara learned of neurofeedback in 2018 and started using it for herself and her family. She saw the needed benefits of creating a greater margin of healing for the brain, as people navigate through difficult life situations. Cara has personally seen brain training benefit herself and others in the way of greater capacity to navigate through stress, trauma, anxiety, brain fog, focus, sleep issues, and depression. Dynamical Neurofeedback in its basic definition is, “Getting the information (or feedback) the brain needs to organize itself, allows the brain to release patterns that can improve the way it functions.” Her passion for neurofeedback has given her an opportunity to help her family and friends over the years. Currently she is working on moving this passion to help her community and others around her. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their four kids, gym workouts, walks, hiking, basically anything outdoors, furniture restoration, and hanging out with friends.

Ozone Therapy is a medical therapy that has been used worldwide for over 50 years with dramatic success and safety.

Ozone is a chemical compound consisting of 3 atoms of oxygen. A medical-grade ozone generator is used to convert O2 into O3, (oxygen into ozone.) The resulting substance has the chemical composition of 0.25 parts of ozone to 99.75 parts of oxygen. At this low concentration, ozone is an incredibly powerful oxidizer, and effectively kills bacteria, fungus, viruses, and parasites with virtually no toxic side effects.

The one thing that all pathogens (bad bacteria / fungus / viruses) have in common is their weak cell membranes. The ozone works by punching a hole in the membrane, thus resulting in the organism’s death. Ozone is therefore very selective, and only targets the “bad bugs” while preserving the normal flora present in every healthy mouth.

Once ozone is created, it can be used in a liquid form (ozonated water) or gas form. When ozone gas is filtered through oils, it forms a thick clear ointment that can be applied topically (ozonated oils).

At our office, we utilize ozonated water in our dental water units, we insufflate teeth with ozone gas prior to placing dental restorations, and we inject ozone gas during surgical procedures to help with healing. We use a high quality generator from everyday.

Ozone has shown to be very effective in treating tooth decay, periodontal disease, gum/dental abscesses, mouth sores, sensitivity, extraction sites, and bone infections.

This past weekend, Dr. Pearson learned about the latest protocols involved with lip/tongue-tie procedures. We use the Light Scalpel premier CO2 laser during these revisions of TOTs (tethered oral ties). This laser allows for quick, precise revisions with very minimal bleeding and tissue trauma.
Did you know that TOTs can cause a wide range of oral dysfunction, including nursing/latch problems for babies, and breathing/sleeping problems for older children and adults? At our office, we believe in a multi-practitioner approach in addressing these TOTs. We work closely with our knowledgeable and talented craniosacral therapists (Jackie Lowe and Beca Hartwig) and myofunctional therapist (Jess Emmert) to provide our patients the best outcome possible following the laser revisions.
