HOPE works passionately to create a community where EVERYONE has access to safe, affordable housing.
My name is Java, and I live in the Safe Haven at HOPE Connections. A few hours ago, a door slammed on my tail and severed it pretty badly. I was rushed to the emergency vet and I'm having to get my tail amputated. 😭 As you can imagine, this is costing us a lot of money. If you'd like to donate to help with my surgery, please go to the website below and put my name, "Java" as the note with your donation.

Thank you, I can't wait to wag my tail again!

UPDATE! Tigger has found permanent housing with a wonderful family! Thanks to everyone who shared and helped make this happen!
For the love of cats- help us find Tigger a home. Tigger moved in a couple of years ago with an injured leg that had to be amputated. He’s had several names over the years, but “Tripod” has been my personal favorite. To only have one back leg, he is fast! He enjoys playing with any animal that will play back with him, and taking cat naps *on the clock*. This guy is L O V E D & loves to be loved.
HOPE will not be the same without him, but we are no longer able to fulfill his needs.
Please help us find him a great home- preferably with a parent who will share pics every now and then!
So proud of the HOPE Employees who attended the Mental Health First Aid Training!! Thanks to our friends at Easter Seals Louisiana especially trainer, Michelle Evans, for providing such a high quality training! Everything we learn helps us connect to the people we serve.

Community Empowerment Award goes to Rashida Dawson, VP of Financial Stability at United Way of Northwest Louisiana ✊🏽💚
The Community Empowerment Award is presented to an individual in the community whose accomplishments have empowered their community through his/her leadership.
This individual's character/presentation is that of a respected leader. Their leadership and service demonstrate a humanitarian commitment by addressing the needs of others in the community.
Dawson stated:
“This award represents my heart which will forever be embedded into my work and the people I serve each day. As a young black female growing up in Lakeside, which is one of Shreveport’s poorest and blighted neighborhoods, I decided early on that my life’s work would be dedicated to fighting against generational poverty and improving the lives of others. This work is not easy, and oftentimes, extremely hard to deal with mentally. However, I do it every single day because there are so many people around us that need an opportunity and someone that truly cares about their well-being. As long as I have breath in my body, my goal is to always empower and in some way, improve the quality of life of everyone in this community.”

APARTMENT UPDATE - VILLA NORTE, THE JOLIE AND THE PINES APARTMENTS
1. The Providence House has started taking applications for financial assistance for Villa Norte, Pines, and Jolie Apartments. They can be reached at 318.221.7887.
City staff did an assessment at Pines Apartment today and found a number of citizens in need.
2. The council approved funding to Providence House to assist with location expenses in conjunction with other community partners.
3. The City of Shreveport in conjunction with the Power Coalition, Providence House, and other partners will be taking applications for financial assistance and supportive services. Application intake has been scheduled for Friday, May 17, 2024, at the SPAR Maintenance Facility, 1033 Shreveport Barksdale Hwy from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm for those residing at Jolie Apartments , and the New Birth Baptist Church, 836 North Market from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for those residing at Villa Norte.
4. SPORTRAN will provide transportation to and from the site for those that are in need of transportation.
5. The United Way’s Financial Empowerment Center will assist with derogatory credit reports and other impediments to obtaining housing on site.
6. Tenants at the Jolie Apartments, Pines Apartments and Villa Norte apartments will have their utilities disconnected on May 31 due to lack of payments from building owners. Because of this, U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box container. The company says hundreds of people will be displaced and now need a secure space to store their household belongings until they find a new home.
“We want to offer support to our displaced neighbors who have been challenged with unforeseen circumstances and given very little time to find solutions,” Warren Iles, president at U-Haul Company of Northern Louisiana, said. “As a longstanding member of the Shreveport business community, we’re here to help however we can.”
The 30-day free offer applies to new self-storage and U-Box rentals and is based on availability.
For more information, contact U-Haul Moving & Storage of Downtown Riverfront on 222 Lake Street at (318) 963-8789.
7. We are continuing to get support from the community. Citizens have offered to purchase food, assist with relocation, and other essential needs.
Thank you to all non-profits, community activists and leaders in this effort.
Mrs. Moore is immensely grateful to administration, city council. LHC, Caddo Parish, HUD, the awesome city departments, and all the amazing agencies, businesses, and citizens that have given selfishly of themselves.
