☀️We started July off with a rather interesting wildlife experience!

🐍🕷️ Our Summer Camp students are diving into their Wildlife Lesson for the summer, so why not have Wildlife Geeks allow us to get up close and personal with some rare wildlife creatures!

Help your child develop all-important social skills!
One of the best ways to teach your child social skills is to let them socialize with other children. However, children’s books can help as well. With books, you can practice and teach your child about complex concepts and let them see how their actions make a difference, benefiting emotional and social development. There’s no shortage of children’s books for learning social skills and we've listed several in the blog on our web site. Or better yet, call to register your child at Legacy Academy for Children where they can make new friends and practice those social skills nurtured by experienced teachers.

Our Voyagers combined to today to create an Amazing Job Fair! This activity straight from Legacy’s own Enhanced Curriculum and focuses on Social Studies. The kids were able to learn about some pretty fun careers. Bakers🧑🏾‍🍳 to Builders 👷🏼‍♂️, Jewelers 💎to Paleontologist 🦕! Artist 👩🏽‍🎨 to Veterinarians 🧑‍⚕️! So many points of development were explored from this activity, but best of all the kids had a great time doing it!

What You Should Know About Your Three-Year Old.
Your three-year-old is changing from a baby to an older child, and those changes are difficult. With a lot of growth comes new and bigger emotions. As a result, three-year-olds can get upset when the world doesn’t conform to their limited logic and expectations. One of the most important things adults can remember when dealing with a three-year-old is that big feelings are normal and that loving, calm interaction (and when possible, re-direction) go a long way toward calming the rough times! If you have a specific challenge you’re facing with your three-year-old, talk with your child’s teacher. Our teachers have a lot of experience with the age groups they teach and can offer resources from the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Looking for ways to avoid the “Summer Brain Drain” or “Summer Slide?” In addition to the learning activities of Summer Camp at Legacy Academy, parents can try these important activities at home: 1) Encourage creative play that involves strategic thinking and logic. That can be anything from building something together to card games. 2) Read every day. Make sure your child has books he or she enjoys and make time each day for about ten minutes of reading. 3) Plan some educational outings like a trip to the library, museum, aquarium, museum or a hands-on farm. At Legacy Academy, your Summer Camper will be taking lots of trips, but a trip with parents reinforces your personal and family value for learning.

🎉Congratulations to our May Teachers of the Month, Ms. Chelsea and Mrs. Megan!

These two make Sr. B a pretty solid place to be! They love on those kids and encourage them to be their best selves! There is always music being played, books being read, or art being done!

The children can’t get enough of their teachers and their class pet Cora! Thank you ladies for all of your hard work and the passion you bring into your classroom! 🍎

What is it about waterplay that allows children to lose themselves in the activity and spend long periods of time exploring and playing? It’s so much more than a way to cool down on a hot day. Waterplay creates opportunities for children to explore different sensory experiences while using up a lot of energy! The custom-designed water play areas at Legacy Academy for Children are always a hit with students; but at home, you can use pots, pans, cups and a hose and still have a whole lot of sensory fun!

As your family gets ready for your summer vacations, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) says involving your child in the planning process nurtures executive functioning skills like organization and strategic thinking. Consider showing your child the dates on a calendar and making a schedule of events. Glue up collages with images cut from magazines or printed from your computer to illustrate fun things you plan to do. If practical, use a map to show where you are going and talk about how long it will take to get there (and how you’ll travel.) Help your child make a checklist of things they want to pack and let them check them off as items go in their suitcases.

Rhythmic activities like drumming and clapping stimulate various regions of the brain, enhancing neural connections and improving cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. Mastering complex rhythmic patterns also fosters better coordination and motor skills. Schedule a tour of the Legacy Academy for Children to see (and hear!) the amazing talent of our young students.
