Liturgy means literally, "the work of the people". Thus, our worship is a participatory experience. This page has been created for you (the people of o

Youth Mission - Fun and growth: So has it been all work and no play this week? Of course not! From trips to Wal-Mart to replenish the snack supply, an outing at the local Dairy Cheer (home of the smashburger!) playing basketball in the gym and catching fireflies we have had plenty of time for fun and games! We have also invited the spirit to feed our souls with a morning reflection and devotion. Each person was given a devotional journal to reflect on the day at the start of each day. We come together and pray, and then each of us has time to reflect through the way we personally reflect, coloring doodling or answering guided questions.

Youth Mission Trip Day 3: Today's work started at the local pregnancy center. The pregnancy center provides support and resources to the 326 clients they serve accross Western Kentucky. The center is in a welcoming old house that was recently purchased and mostly donated. We cleaned, power washed the driveway, and helped put the bags together for the upcoming golf tournament fundraiser. After lunch, we headed to 2 different spots, the local performing arts center and Grace Fellowship. The arts center is getting ready to open their first summer stock show and needed some help completing the sets. The theater is important to this small community and a way for everyone to connect. At the same time, we had a group just down the block at Grace Fellowship portioning out 500 individual servings of pasta salad for the twice weekly community lunch where 800-1100 people are fed per week. Anyone from the community is welcome, but for the most part, the homeless community is served. Our youth were motivated and inspired by this and asked if we could return tomorrow to serve and pass out food. I truly saw God today in each and every one of them. God is so good, and I could not be more proud of the Holy Cross Youth.

Youth Mission Trip Day 2: Today we returned to Reno's house and finished staining the deck we started yesterday. After moving the porch furniture back we had to say goodbye to Reno. Reno shared stories of the area, how it has changed and all about what it was like to be a coal moner with our group. His stories were truly eye opening. After leaving Reno's (about 45 minutes from Pikeville) we had some time before our next assignment, so we stopped at a local park on the way to have lunch.

Each morning after breakfast, we are provided with a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, peanut butter, and jelly, as well as chips and granola bars. We "brown bag" it each day, taking a break around noon. After lunch, we went to the local homeless shelter and helped with sorting donations for their donation room and shredding old paperwork. Our mornings start early, but we wrap up the day between 3 and 3:30. Today was super productive! God is good.

Day 1 for the youth in Pikeville: Today we met Reno. Reno worked in the coal mines for 43 years and has lived in the same town about 30 minutes (through the mountains) since he was a year old. Reno is proud and worked hard for many years to put his three children through school and is very proud of them. They often ask thier dad when he will move away but he always tells them he'll never move. Today's projects were simple but labor intensive. Our youth cut and cleared weeds from Reno's neighbors yard and sanded and stained Reno's deck. They worked hard and efficiently, coming together as a group. Working together as a team, both projects were completed in just over 4.5 hours. Whew! A great first day!
