Worthy WE
Each of us is Worthy of Wellness and Empowerment & WE can grow our resilience together!
Thank you Apple Blossom Academy for the invitation to do a workshop with you! What a great group of people-we are so grateful for you!
This week we are focusing on gestures of joy! Our bodies express joy through dancing, cheering, singing, clapping, or even just a small or light in our faces. This joy is contagious, and if the world needs anything, it’s joy! Let’s share some joy today by moving our bodies in some joyful gestures!

Happy Monday! This week is a reminder we can use gestures to bring about comfort for ourselves and others. This could be putting a hand over our heart, giving a hug, or squeezing a hand…This quote from Leo Buscaglia sums up well how important our small gestures are ❤️
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Leo Buscaglia
New month, new skill! This month we will focus on gestures and spontaneous movements that can help get us back into/widen our Resiliency Zone! These can be simple, and it starts by noticing those movements our body does already to help us feel calm, confident, joyful, or express other emotions. Then we can call them to mind as needed for ourselves or collectively! Check out the comments for one of my favorite gesture videos that inspired me a few months ago 😀
“Change happens through movement, and movement heals.” Joseph Pilates
Our final April CRM Minute! This week is a reminder that we have choices that we can make for ourselves to change our perspective, bring us to the present, and ride out the waves coming our way. Make a choice-change your environment, dance, sing-to bring some light to your day. And better yet-connect with others while you do these! A small choice of change can make a huge impact!
I’ll be co-leading the May 16th virtual workshop, and the May 22nd lunch and learn in Brookings! Would love to see you at one of them!

We can take a pause and reset by taking some time to notice with our 5 senses. Try it out now! What do you smell? See? Touch? Give your mind a rest and find a rich life right in front of you.
“If I, deaf, blind, find life rich and interesting, how much more can you gain by the use of your five senses!” -Helen Keller
Life update!
I am thrilled to share that starting this fall I will get to join an amazing team to help relaunch the Social Work program at Augustana University! I will be the BSW Field Director, getting to teach some courses as well as oversee field placements for students in their senior year. So to all my social work friends in the area-I’ll be calling you about internships! 😃
I’m feeling extremely humbled, grateful, and excited to walk with students as they develop strong social work skills, to partner with community agencies in that experience, and to join the ranks of this well-respected institution.
Here are some photos from the program launch last week. Thank you to my parents Patty Peters Scott Peters and my husband John Vining for coming out to support me and the program!
Go Vikes!
P.S.-Worthy WE will continue-more on that later!
Happy Monday! This week we continue our CRM Minute focus on Help Now strategies, including my favorite Loving Kindness mantra! Need a pick me up today? Try repeating this mantra, sending Loving Kindness to yourself, to someone else, and out to the whole world. Or listen to the video for some Loving Kindness from me 🙂
“May you be safe and protected,
May you be healthy in body and mind,
May you have joy and happiness,
May you live at ease and in peace.”

This week’s CRM Minute focuses on the power of water! Water can help us regulate-taking a drink of water, taking a shower, going for a swim, or even just washing our hands and paying attention to the water. Check out the video for a fun water/rice experiment to see how our words affect water!

Happy April! This month we will focus on Help Now strategies, simple things like drinking water, noticing the sounds or colors around us, or the temperature of the space we are in to bring us back to our Resilient Zone. We can lean into Help Now strategies to empower us with choices to get us back to the present, and do the next right thing!

This week’s CRM Minute is all about Taking Root! We can use grounding to take root in our lives and be present to ourselves and those around us. For me, this can mean putting my technology away to be more present. So (after you watch the video 😅) I invite you to take a break from technology and take root in the present with those around you!

In this week’s CRM Minute, we jump into different ways we can ground-through our hands, feet, with water, walking or with pets or another person. You can also use the iChill app to listen and ground through a grounding meditation. Check out this week’s video for more information examples of how to ground (with free construction noise in the background because, well…real life 😅).
“Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.” -Thich Nhat Hahn

This week’s CRM Minute highlights the importance of gravitational security, a key component of the Grounding skill. When we feel safe and secure in our environment, our attention can switch to building stronger relationships with those around us. This can be especially powerful if we can ground in nature.
“The deeper we delve into our natural world, the deeper our connections grow. Our natural world is the most incredible gift-not only for our health and well-being, but also in reconnecting with ourselves.” -Faith Douglas, The Nature Remedy
This month we will be focusing on the skill of Grounding! In the Community Resiliency Model, grounding is simply the direct contact of our body with something that provides support in the present moment. Grounding can help bring our awareness back to the present, and regulate our nervous system.
Check out the video for a very brief grounding exercise. You can also find this exercise/meditation on the iChill app!
“Grounding refers to our ability to have not only our feet on the ground, but our minds on the ground.” -Janina Fisher

This one hits home for me today. Resources can have many natures, and can cause our emotions and sensations to change and sometimes bring tears. These tears might be sweet tears or salty tears…We can track our bodies and decide if we want to stay with this resource, or switch to something else that might be more helpful. Check out the video for more!
I love this quote from Desmond Tutu: “Discovering more joy, I’m sorry to say, does not save us from the inevitability of hardship or heart break. In fact, we may cry more easily, but we will laugh more easily too. Perhaps we are just more alive.”

Happy Thursday! This week’s CRM Minute focuses on Resource Intensification, which helps strengthen our felt sense of the resource. We can do this by incorporating all of our senses into the resourcing experience. This helps our body switch from unpleasant to pleasant or neutral sensations more fully. Check out the video and handout here or on my website!

Yesterday we had the immense privilege of coming back to Discovery Learning Center for a Resiliency Refresher! It was a day full of fun, connection, and diving deep into personal and group wellness together. Thank you for asking us back-we loved being with you all!
This week’s video focuses on conversational resourcing, which we can use at any time including during or after a crisis, or after a loss. Some questions we can use are found below in the hand out. All of these can help us feel seen, heard, and empowered!
Happy February! This month’s skills practice will focus on Resourcing. A resource is any person, place, thing, activity, or part of yourself that brings you joy, peace, or calm. What Is bringingg you joy today?

This weekend we were able to have a booth at the Sioux Falls WOW conference, supporting childcare professionals and early educators in the region. Thank you for what you do, and thank you to my helpers for coming along with me to get our table set up!
Happy Monday! Today’s CRM Minute is a reminder of the power of feeling seen, heard, and valued, the foundations of connection! As we practice our skills of wellbeing, may we find ways to all feel seen and loved. You can find a printout of this on my blog at worthywe.com!

Happy Monday! We are continuing our Tracking skill theme on this week’s CRM Minute-Ways to Track. A great reminder that we can track ourselves, observe others, or help them track. I love this poem that sums it all up from Mary Oliver: “Intrstructions for living a life-Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.”
