"The victim may be lured by traffickers who may be kind to them in the beginning. The trafficker will provide them with basic needs, such as food and shelter. Then, use drugs to control them.
Allen said the holidays may be a time when some people don’t have a family support system or anyone to call. These are the types of people a trafficker will target."

Why is housing important to survivors? Many Call to Freedom clients are experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, or unsafe housing. The goal of our Housing Navigation service is to connect individuals and families with stable permanent housing. Alpine Companies, Residential Real Estate/Alpine Cares has been a longtime supporter and feels called to further help secure safe and stable housing for those we serve. Last Friday, they held a luncheon for community members to learn more about our partnership and their financial goals for this project.

Another type of typology of modern-day slavery can happen in the health and beauty industries. The exploitation and trafficking of vulnerable people occur in the shadows of everyday businesses. Despite frequent interactions with customers, language barriers and intense monitoring make it hard for workers to reach out for help.
