The Sleepy Hollow Police Department is heartbroken to hear of the death of another brother in blue. Another life taken too soon by a career criminal out amongst the community. We wish to express our deepest condolences to Officer Diller’s wife and young child as they struggle to cope with their incredible loss and begin to figure out how to move on without their Husband and Father. We also extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to our brothers and sisters of the NYPD as they too struggle to move on as they are once again forced to look on as they bury another one of their own. 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻

We’d like to introduce you to another hometown hero. Officer Dan Collins is one of our newest members of the department and he comes with an impressive military service resume.
Officer Collins (Dan) graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science (Magna Cum Laude), a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate’s Unlimited Tonnage License, and a commission into the U.S. Navy Reserve. As a midshipman, he played baseball and basketball, and was recently named to the conference All-Decade team in baseball. He was all also named a Capital One Academic All-American.
At the Academy, he sailed as a cadet aboard various cargo ships around the world. Upon graduating, he sailed as a Third Officer aboard U.S. Flagged merchant ships, primarily oil tankers in the U.S. Gulf. He is active within the U.S. Navy’s Strategic Sealift Officer Program, with the rank of Lieutenant. He is also a member of the Navy’s Funeral Honor Guard team. As if this wasn’t enough, Dan made the decision to become a Police Officer and as luck would have it, we were fortunate enough to be able to bring him “aboard” (Navy humor) and give him a home here in Sleepy Hollow. Please take a moment to give Dan a hello and a thank you if / when you see him out on patrol. As always Officer Collins, we thank you for your past and continued service to our great country and community.(Magna
The Sleepy Hollow Police Dept. would like to pause for a moment to reflect on and thank those in our country, our community and in our own dept. for their military service to our great nation. Every one of us owes you a debt that could not ever possibly be re-paid. Our dept. currently employs four of these heroes and we’d like to publicly acknowledge their service to our country and our village with individual posts:
If you see Sgt. Nelson out on patrol, please take a second to thank him for his service. Sgt. Nelson (Paul) served in the U.S. Navy from 1993-2004 and separated service at the rank of Master At Arms 2nd Class. He was activated to Sigonella, Italy in 2003 in support of Operation Noble Eagle Enduring Freedom. In the true sense of service, Paul began a career as a NYS Correction Officer in November of 1997 and served there until May of 2005 when he joined the Sleepy Hollow Police Dept as a Patrolman. In his capacity as one of our own, he has been assigned as a Field Training Officer, General Topics Instructor as well as a Fi****ms Instructor and currently serves the department as a Patrol Sergeant. Your country, your community and your department thanks you Sgt. Nelson.

The Sleepy Hollow Police Department would like to advise village residents that there have been several complaints recently of thefts from Motor Vehicles in Sleepy Hollow and the surrounding area. Theft from vehicles is an opportunity-based crime, and offenders target easy vehicles.
Some tips to prevent theft from your vehicle:
• Remove all valuables (backpacks, cell phones, purses, wallets, sunglasses, GPS systems, keys, iPods, shopping bags, ci******es, etc) from your vehicle
• If you must keep valuables in your vehicle, store them in your trunk
• Never leave a spare vehicle or house key in your vehicle
• Whenever possible, park your vehicle in a well-lit area and lock your doors
• Protect your insurance and registration documents as well as your garage door opener (Carry them in your wallet or conceal them)
• If your garage door opener is stolen, ensure you change your system code
• Use locking screws for your license plate.
Always call 911 in an emergency and our non emergency line is (914)631-0800
