Message from Mayor Rutyna Regarding School Project Vote:
Dear Residents,
The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns (TUFSD) will present a Capital Bond Project in the amount of $86,771,134 to the voters on December 12, 2023.
I am writing to ask you to become informed about the Capital Bond Project and participate in the vote, next Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
This project will keep the Winfield L. Morse School, on Beekman Avenue, opened and expand the building without any impact on the Village of Sleepy Hollow 's budget.
This investment will create a learning environment that can meet the needs of all students, who come from culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse backgrounds.
According to the TUFSD's assessment, "current facilities face challenges that are negatively impacting students’ learning environments, especially on the elementary level. Facilities are very much in need of upgrades in order to provide our students with long-term, safe, secure and fully functional schools. A Five-Year Capital Facilities Plan, which is required by New York State every five years, was used to prioritize the items included in the bond proposition."
Here are the improvements proposed from funds from the Capital Bond Project for Morse School:
• 4 Story, 6 classroom building addition
• Existing classrooms enlarged to meet State standards
• Secure, enclosed outdoor courtyard classroom
• Overall building improvements: new ceilings, lighting, and flooring
• Reorganization and renovations to administrative offices, nurse's office, and student support service space
• New corridor to connect the 3rd floor and building wings
• Security upgrades, including secure entrance vestibule and security office, door and door hardware replacements, security systems, fire alarm and PA system
• ADA compliance and improved accessibility
• New heating, ventilation and air-cooling systems, electrical service upgrade, and improved energy efficiencies
Voting will take place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 7am -9pm at the W.L. Morse School.

After a site visit today (11/13), and consulting with Riley Green Mountain Tennis, we are extending the court closure at Devries Park two more days. The epoxy and the paint is drying slowly due to the cold temperatures. We are putting the heaters on a few times a day to help the process. The closure of the courts will now include Wednesday, November 15th and Thursday, November 16th.
Play can resume Friday, November 17th. Any current reservations for Wednesday or Thursday will be cancelled and we will be blocking off all future reservations for those two days. The gates are secured so nobody can play on them. Thanks for your patience.
New parking rates: Effective November 13.
Nuevas tarifas de aparcamiento: Efectivo: Noviembre 13
The Village of Sleepy Hollow will be doing repairs and refurbishing of the platform tennis courts at Devries Park starting tomorrow, Thursday, November 9th until next Wednesday, November 15th.
Painting the court surface is part of the project. Fixing the net posts and repairing the side wires will also be part of the work.
We are sorry for the late notice, but we have to take advantage of this while the weather will still cooperate, and the company doing these repairs is available.
All reservations made for Thursday-Tuesday will be cancelled.
The entry gates to the courts will be locked each evening.
Thank you for your patience and we hope you are all looking forward to an improved facility.

A Flash Mob took over Patriot’s Park to raise funds for Kids’ Club last Saturday, Oct 28. Shoppers standing in line to grab apples and fresh bread at the TaSH Farmer’s Market got an unexpected Halloween treat. Dancers in black and white, some wearing wigs, hats, and colorful sunglasses, streamed in to the opening notes of The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s favorite sing-along, The Time Warp.
Flash mob producer and Kids’ Club board member Char Weigel said that planning started a year ago, and included getting legal rights to the song and recruiting residents to both dance and fundraise. She added, “Things really gelled when Rivertown Dance Academy and The TaSH
Farmers Market came on board.”
The flash mob was originally scheduled for October 21st, but fell victim to New York’s rainy Saturday streak. It was rescheduled on what turned out to be a beautiful day at the farmer’s market. Through donations sponsoring the participating dancers, the event has raised $2,000 so far, all of which will go to Kids’ Club grants and projects. It was produced in conjunction with the TaSH and RDA, with support from Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown local governments.
