Sometimes, when you've been in the same space for so many years, you forget how special something is. My friend at recently came to the shop for a demo and took these pictures. I love seeing my shop through the eyes of others and these pictures reminded me of all the work and love myself and my staff has put into this business.

Hands down, one of the best products I have ever made, with the essential oils only changing slightly over the past 15 years as new science based research proves their efficacy.

🌟The essential oils found in both blends are lemon eucalyptus, citronella, lavender, Virginia cedarwood, geranium, lemongrass, all shown to be a natural insecticide with geranium specifically used for tick prevention
🌟The oil based blend is made up of organic "dry" oils of golden jojoba (closest substance to your own sebum), fractionated coconut (doesn't go rancid, no smell), and neem (natural insecticide and helps to soothe inflamed and infected skin). Once it's put on the skin, there will be no oily feeling as it penetrates immediately. Re-apply about every 2-3 hours.

🌟The water based formula is the exact same essential oils, but in a spring water, witch hazel, and glycerin base. My favorite way to use this product is to spray it over my clothes, socks, shoes, and hair as bugs love to swirl around my crazy curly hair. Because it is in a water base, it will evaporate more quickly, so reapply more often as needed.

🌟We also make a kid formula that is just like our oil based blend but with different essential oils that can be used on children two and under.

🌟We want to give the biggest 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 to our 🌟 She just finished her Masters program in Ayurvedic medicine from . She is off to India at the end of summer for a month long clinical training in an Ayurvedic hospital. When she returns, she will be accepting clients for private consultations.

We are so proud of you Jena and your countless hours of studies while also being an amazing mom, wife, friend, and employee of . You deserve all the recognition!!

White Linen and Lagniappe is fast approaching and I am looking for 25 artists/crafters to set up in my courtyard and on the street for FREE!!
Set up will be from 4-6pm with the event happening from 6-9pm. I am only accepting handmade items. The Northshore Community Orchestra's Jazz Ensemble will be playing in my courtyard as well.

I will also consider allowing some food vendors to set up in my space as long as it is different than what we already offer in Olde Towne. Food trucks must get a special permit from the@City of Slidell, Louisiana

Spent the morning walking through the woods and swamps teaching Aeva how to identify and harvest 𝒆𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 and 𝒎𝒊𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒂 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 - making sure to thank the plant and land first and leaving a little offering wherever we foraged. In the kitchen now washing everything so that I can make the most beautiful plant medicine with these delicate flowers. We will be making glycerites, infused honey, and electuaries with both and also some probiotic soda with the elderflower. I'll post pictures as we make these special remedies✌🏼🧡🌿-B

On June 20th, our newest exhibit, Botanica: Gardens, Landscapes & Plant Medicines in South Louisiana, will be open to the public in the Cabildo! 🌸🌿🌼

The exhibit explores the cultural meaning of Louisiana medicinal plants and how historically based understandings of them are evolving under the threat of climate change and land loss. Guest curators Rachel Breunlin and Monique Verdin are collaborating with herbalists, artists, gardeners and scholars to place into context stories of historical and contemporary gardens and natural environments!

Friends of the Cabildo

While I was at the 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 conference in Black Mountain, NC, I was able to go visit the NC Arboretum in Asheville NC and the University of North Carolina - Botanical Gardens. I met so many trees, herbs, and native plants that really inspired me to be more aware of my own surroundings. Plants/Food as medicine is all around us if we just take a moment to notice AND PROTECT IT!

At the conference, I was surrounded by the legends in our field. I was so mesmerized by their passion, their commitment to herbal knowledge, food as medicine, and protecting the people and places where these precious botanicals grow. One of the highlights was meeting and learning from Rebecca Beyer from Blood and Spicebush and Lucretia VanDyke, author and resident of New Orleans. Both of these women are experts in their field and both weave the magic and folklore of their people into all of their herbal workings. I am so inspired by both of them and they really helped me to zone in on what matters to me-teaching my community how to live more in line with the botanicals in our own region.

Finally, there were 5 big takeaways for me from my time in the mountains with my "Krewe."
1. Discover, learn how to use, and most importantly, protect the people and the land that have historically grown and used the medicinal and native plants in your region.
2. Find analogs, or substitutions, for the herbs that you want to learn about when said herbs are on the United Plant Savers' list of endangered or at risk botanicals. Don't buy these products, don't suggest them to others. Instead, teach people how to grow them and find substitutions from your own region.
3. Energetics-energetics-energetics! Plants, people, ailments, seasons all have defining energetic characteristics. Our job as herbalists is to ask the vital questions that help us accurately suggest the right herb for the right situation. Every body is unique and every person will not have the same experience with a particular herb.
4. Anyone can be an herbalist. If you study herbs, you are an herbalist. Not one person that I spoke to would claim to be a "master herbalist." They may be an expert in their particular field or concentration, but no one knows every herb or medicinal plant on this beautiful Earth. We are all lifetime students. Even the so called "experts" in their fields had no problem with learning from newer herbalists-because everyone's experience is different.
5. This one is a personal takeway that I learned from Rebecca and Lucretia. Ancestral work comes in many forms. Lucretia beautifully explains her connection and work with her African ancestry. She finds that connection wherever she is, Haiti, New Orleans, her original hometown in the mountains of NC. She brings awareness and reverence for the black women and men that have historically used plant medicine in their own communities. Rebecca, a transplant to Appalachia, has spent years studying the magic, folklore, and usage of botanicals in this region, and in doing so, has discovered her own version of an ancestral connection. Each of these extraordinary women taught me to 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 and that connection to your ancestors will come in one way or another.

If the first 2 bills get passed, it could have devastating effects on our h**p industry here in Louisiana. So many people use cbd and thc from h**p to manage their pain, their depression, their anxiety, etc not to mention the thousands of retailers and wholesalers who bring in millions of dollars to our state. There are 3 H**p bills pending in the Louisiana legislature that could drastically change the H**p Industry in Louisiana. Sen Pressly's SB 237 bans all h**p derived THC products. Sen Talbot's SB 495 bans THC beverages, prohibits the sale of h**p products in C-Stores, and limits who can manufacture & distribute h**p products in Louisiana.

HB 952 by Representative Miller provides for strengthened age-verification laws, placement of h**p products behind the counter of retailers, and background checks on retailers who sell h**p products. Over the past three years, the industry has suffered from mis-interpretations of existing law, i.e., the La Department of Health approved over 400 h**p products that later had to be revoked. HB 952 addresses many of the concerns of legislators who have raised issues about children buying h**p products and illegal products being approved for sale.

The H**p Association of Louisiana opposes both Senate Bills, SB 237 & SB 495. The Association Supports Rep Miller's HB 952.

☔️Recently, I asked y'all to give me ideas for summer scents that remind you of Louisiana. So many of you said, "the smell of wet pavement, the smell of concrete when it rains." I have been working on this scent for literally a year now, before I even knew that some of y'all are just as weird as me:)
🌨️I am really happy the way that this scent turned out. You definitely immediately smell the quintessential Louisiana flowers of gardenia and jasmine, but then the ivy and rain smell shine through. Finally, the wet pavement smell hits you and you won't believe how spot on it is.
💧I don't think that everyone will like this scent, but I genuinely understand. For me, it brings me right back to my young adult escapades in New Orleans and playing in the rain as a kid. Come by soon and let us know what you think!

🧡We are doing something a little different this year for Mother's Day. As most of you know, my staff is made up of mothers. I have decided that I am giving the gift of allowing my staff to be with their families for the entire weekend. As such, we will be closed this Saturday and Sunday so that our mommies can completely pamper themselves and love on their little ones.
