This week at the market, you can find our exclusive to outdoor season flavors - Chicken & Thai Basil and Green Curry Vegan Dumplings - along with SO many more delicious options! Take advantage of the cooler weather to come out and enjoy good food and fun at Saturday Delmar Farmers Market.

Chicken & Thai Basil dumplings are flavorful in all the best ways - zesty (lime), spicy (ginger, garlic, black pepper), herby (Thai basil), and umami (fish sauce) all in one delectable package. This dumpling is drizzled with peanut coconut sauce and sprinkled with crushed peanuts. Take it to the next level with all the usual works - scallions, fried onions, and chili oil!

Green Curry Vegan dumplings are just as amazing with Thai green coconut curry tofu, shredded golden potatoes, cabbage, and chives. We’ll be serving these drizzled with a cilantro coconut lime sauce to complement the spicy nature of this filling!

You can purchase frozen packs of this delicious flavor at both our pick-ups held on Friday, 7/19 (3-6pm in Slingerlands) and Saturday Delmar Farmers Market on Saturday, 7/20 (9am-1pm).

If you've been finding it hard to make it to our markets on Saturdays, you can pre-order for pick-ups starting Wednesday, 7/16 at 8am. We will have ELEVEN varieties of dumpling flavors available that you can select from, so don't miss out on this opportunity!

Lately, we've taken steps towards sourcing more ingredients from local farmers and businesses. For example, the kale used in our recent batch of Curry Vegan dumplings comes from friends we've made at the Delmar Farmers Market. We first connected with Julia and Anthony of over a shared love for our vegan dumplings, baos, and other dishes. We are thrilled to partner with them this year to bring you the most delicious and nutritionally vibrant foods we can.

To be honest, we wish we could say this about every ingredient we use. While running this business and learning more about farming practices, food production, etc., we have a deepening appreciation for and understanding of sourcing local whenever possible for better quality, better environmental impact, and better community. As a small and low margin business with very limited staff, we don't always have the ability to acquire local ingredients when we need them. So another lesson we've learned since beginning Two Little Dumplings, it is to let go of an "all-or-nothing" mentality. Sometimes is better than never, which is a starting point that we plan to grow from.

And if you haven't had dumplings in your salad yet, we highly recommend you give it a try! It's a surprisingly great combination during these hot and humid days. As for dressing? Just drizzle our dipping sauce and chili oil atop it all and mix.

Kale us crazy, but it's really good!

Sometimes, the best inventions are accidental. An extra batch of honey sesame cookies were reinvented into the crust of this cheesecake. And the cake flavor itself was dreamed up to complement the honey sesame - osmanthus flowers. While a more unknown tea, the osmanthus flower gives a delicate sweet, floral, buttery flavor. The dried flower tea was steeped and infused in the cream overnight before being strained and whipped into the Basque cheesecake. The result? A perfect match.

You'll notice in the folding video demo that we give the skins a little stretch before filling the dumpling. During the summer, the humidity and temperature affect the size, shape, and elasticity of our dough. To make the dumplings hearty, we expand the skins to accommodate more filling 😋

Dragon Boat Festival arrives on June 10th this year and of course we recognize this special holiday by participating in the feasting! While we have never rowed a dragon boat (yet?), we do undertake the arduous art of making ZÒNGZI! 粽子 (ZOHNG-zih) is a lesser known dumpling in the USA but we hope to help it grow in popularity as it is one of our favorites. For us, zòngzi is like the Thanksgiving turkey, the Christmas yule log, the birthday cake you get once a year - heartily craved and anticipated, packed with comfort and nostalgia, assembled with the power of intergenerational family ties.

There are many different versions ranging from savory to sweet, but all are primarily made with glutinous rice (aka sticky rice) with various fillings at the center, and wrapped in bamboo leaves to be steamed or boiled.

This year, we will feature 2 types of our savory versions of zòngzi at Delmar Farmers Market on Saturdays, 6/8 and 6/15.

🐷PORK - w. Taiwanese sausage, dried shrimp, shiitake mushroom, mung bean, kabocha squash
🥬VEGAN - w. braised soybeans, shiitake mushroom, edamame, mung bean, kabocha squash

We will be offering zòngzi only during this short period of time in honor of the Dragon Boat Festival so plan to come and try one for the first time, or to enjoy this traditional dish again!

The best part of our work aside from being able to create something beautiful as a family is the joy we feel when getting to connect with you - our neighbors, our friends, our extended family. We see our food as: a vehicle to draw your own family together, a way to celebrate milestones, a comfort to aches and grief.

We truly believe that when you choose to support us, we have the privilege of becoming a part of your life even if it is for just one meal. We, as a family and in our work, become woven into the network of strands that knit together our community. Celebrate AAPI Month with Sweets & Treats
For our pop-up Stuyvesant Plaza with Sur La Table, we will be bringing some of the most unique selection of treats in the area to celebrate AAPI month. Find snowskin mooncakes, Taiwanese pineapple cakes, and assorted cookies when you stop by to pick up your pre-order or walk-in to take a look at all we bring along! Desserts will be first come, first served.

This week, we are offering pick-ups in Slingerlands (Fri. 5/17 3-6PM & Sat. 5/18 10AM-2PM) and at our pop-up for AAPI month with Stuyvesant Plaza in Sur La Table (Sat. 5/18 10AM-2PM). You are able to pre-order for both events starting today through Friday while supplies last. We will be bringing extras of frozen dumplings to our pop-up on Saturday for walk-ins as well!

PLEASE NOTE: We will not be present at Saturday Delmar Farmers Market this Saturday, 5/18 but will return for Memorial Day weekend with a delicious menu on Saturday, 5/25. Thank you for understanding!

Who & What We're Made Of: Part 6
Greetings from the youngest members of Two Little Dumplings!

Hi, my name is Penny. Something I like about Two Little Dumplings is when I get to taste test new creations. I’ve eaten many versions of dumplings, mooncakes, lǔ ròu fàn, and beef noodle soup. My parents like our opinion of everything, and sometimes I get tired of the foods😮‍💨. My favorite way to help is at the farmers market because I get to prepare food for people. My favorite dumplings are Chicken & Thai Basil, Golden, and Classic Vegan. For my favorite baos, I like Taro Mochi and Pork Cha Siu. As for favorite desserts, I love Snowskin Mooncakes and Honey Sesame Cookies. I hope someday we can open a restaurant and I can help decorate it and keep it running!

Hi, my name is Karis. At the farmers market, my favorite jobs are helping in the front with my mom by giving people change and putting the toppings on dumplings with my dad. My favorite dumplings are Cheeseburger and Lunar. My favorite baos are Taro Mochi and Vegan Cha Siu. My favorite desserts are the Cookies and Mooncakes. Something challenging for me is in the morning, I have to eat my breakfast fast so we can get to the market on time. I hope that everyone will like our business and that Two Little Dumplings will become a good restaurant one day.

This week Saturday Delmar Farmers Market , we’re bringing back a much requested dish - Lǔ Ròu Fàn 滷肉飯 (pronounced: loo row fahn). It is a braised pork rice dish of fried shallots mixed with rich savory sweet saucy ground pork mingled with star anise and ginger. We serve the pork over jasmine rice, a jammy marinated egg, and refreshing pickled daikon slices.

ALSO, another much requested item coming to market this weekend are 🍋lemon custard baos! We sold out of these so fast online and hope you come try them hot and steamy on Saturday!

Who & What We're Made Of: Part 5
Brian’s Story

2 minutes in the microwave.

Even in high school, my mother never trusted me to cook anything on the stove. She would pre-make ramen for me before heading to work in the morning for my after school meal. I was to only microwave, and she even gave me handwritten reheating instructions for that every day. Tired of bland mushy noodles, I dared to cook my own instant ramen on the stove multiple times and even when I told her the truth, she still kept pre-making ramen for me.

At a young age, I watched my Toisanese grandmothers make traditional dishes from scratch. I helped my paternal grandmother wash bamboo leaves for zongzi. My maternal grandmother was known for her crystal skin dumplings made of tapioca starch and filled with ground pork, carrots, and peas to feed her plethora of grandchildren when they came to visit her.

I started to cook all the time when I lived on my own for an internship and often called my mother to ask for her recipes, like fried rice or chicken and broccoli. My perspective of cooking exploded when I visited Grace Manor, the family business my wife (then girlfriend) grew up in. I saw how they would cook 90+ eggs in one giant wok for breakfast and over 20 lbs of lo mein for dinner. Having never cooked on a wok station before, I took every opportunity to stand nearby, hoping that someone would ask me to help them stir with the giant wok spatula.

Experimenting with food always finds its way to the top of my hobbies. Learning about dishes I used to watch my elders make as a child (zongzi, luo buo gao, lo mai fan) is nostalgic. I am also naturally curious about foods from cuisines around the world and learning the rich history of their invention long ago. Developing and cooking recipes satisfies my craving to exercise both creative and analytical skills (after all, I am an engineer). In one dish, you get to artistically pick out ingredients that complement each other in color, but then have to execute on making sure they taste well together prepared in the right sequence. And since food concepts continue to evolve, there’s always so much to try!
