This week sensei Jimmy of Shinkendo Buken Atlanta dropped by to show us a couple of gunto. It was an interesting and informative presentation about these very different WWII era blades, and a great experience to be able to see them in person. Thank you sensei for taking time to share this history with us.

Thanks to everyone for the excellent Spring Seminar, and especially to Obata Kaiso for coming to Atlanta to instruct us all. It was a great weekend to train, catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

In preparation for the upcoming seminar we spent a fine Saturday refurbishing our main dojo floor and cleaning up. Many thanks to Shinkendo Buken Atlanta for teaming up with us to complete this project.

Had a couple of excellent training sessions with Sensei Philpott of Shinkendo of Birmingham this week.

A focus on tachiuchi and sparring this week provides a good challenge for the mind and body.

Our dojo has rounded out the year with a focus on the finer points of technique, an exploration of discipline, and refinement at every level. Looking ahead to the new year, new progress, new goals.

Just one week until "Samurai Armor from the Collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller" opens at the High! The exhibition will feature nearly twenty complete sets of armor, more than one hundred fifty helmets, swords, and other objects spanning almost nine centuries of creative production, illuminating the exceptionally high level of design and craft dedicated to these elaborate instruments of ceremony and combat. The exhibition will be on view from June 23 – September 17.
