The state document, which applies to all KY NASP tournaments (including local competitions, state qualifiers as well as the state tournament), highlights KY specific rules in blue. Coaches and archers are expected to know and abide by all of the rules. Why risk disqualification? The first step to knowing the rules is to read the rules. Not only is it a great idea to share these documents with archers, but they are expected to know and understand the rules as well.

We know that a school gym isn’t as spacious as the facility used for the state tournament and many schools are unable to host a tournament using the official range lines. With safety being the ultimate priority, we’ve modified the lines to come up with a solution used only in gyms too small for the full setup. Download available online:https://fw.ky.gov/Education/Documents/Range-Layout-for-bullseye-GYM-SETUP.pdf

The WAITING LINE is placed 4 yards or meters behind the SHOOTING LINE.
The COACHES ALLEY will not be required.
The SPECTATOR LINE is placed 2-3 yards or meters behind the WAITING LINE.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the 2024 KY NASP® State Tournament will now be held on March 29-30. We realize this is Easter weekend and it is not an ideal date, but it's what we have been given. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope the new date does work out better overall.

07/11/2023

UPDATE: Thanks to a follower, we found out that KEC had a scheduling conflict with our state tournament. The new date is March 29 - 30. We do realize this is Easter weekend but is the only weekend available for us.

The first day of school is in sight! We know how important it is to plan a schedule and thought you might need the '23 - '24 tournament dates. We're so excited for the new season!

In the world of archery, one might assume that the key to success lies solely in perfecting aim and technique. However, there is another crucial element that often goes overlooked: the power of breath. Proper breathing techniques and relaxation play a vital role in enhancing archery performance. Here's why:

Steadying the Aim: When an archer draws back their bowstring and aims at the target, the body naturally tenses up in anticipation. This tension can cause muscle tremors and adversely affect the accuracy of the shot. By focusing on deep and controlled breaths, archers can alleviate this tension and steady their aim. The inhalation and exhalation process helps relax the muscles and calms the mind, leading to improved stability and precision.

Enhancing Focus and Concentration: Archery demands a high level of mental focus and concentration. In the midst of the competition or during practice sessions, distractions can easily creep in, disrupting an archer's rhythm. By incorporating mindful breathing techniques, archers can anchor their attention to the present moment and heighten their focus. Deep breaths help clear the mind, eliminate unnecessary thoughts, and increase awareness of the body and surroundings, allowing archers to perform at their peak.

Managing Performance Anxiety: Archery competitions can generate significant pressure, causing anxiety and nervousness in even the most experienced archers. When anxiety takes over, physical tension escalates, leading to jerky movements and poor shot ex*****on. Employing relaxation techniques such as controlled breathing helps combat anxiety and keeps the body and mind in a calm state. It regulates heart rate, reduces stress hormone levels, and promotes a sense of tranquility, enabling archers to perform under pressure more effectively.

In conclusion, breathing and relaxation are integral components of archery that should not be underestimated. By incorporating proper breathing techniques into their practice routines, archers can enhance their stability, focus, and performance. A steady breath can mean the difference between hitting the gold and missing the target.

So, the next time you step onto the archery range, remember to take a deep breath and let it guide you towards excellence.
